From Martin Newell’s site today:
“This is in very early stages but I’m in discussions with Radio 3 about a feature programme on Jake Thackray and George Brassens. This is going to take considerable research I really hope it happens because, to me at least it’s a fascinating subject. In recent years I’ve become more and more fond of French chanson and to help make a programme like this, about Jake Thackray too, will be an immense privilege and thrill.”
6 June 2004 at 12:03 pm #3799This sounds like a great project if it comes off, Richard.
But the link you provided only seems to lead to BT Yahoo Internet promotional or sign-up pages – nothing about Martin Newell. Can you check it out?
6 June 2004 at 4:52 pm #3800Sorry about the link I changed it but it is no longer a hotlink – it goes to Martin’s home page then you navigate to the news page from there.
(i.e click on link when picture appears right click and “open link” – then go to News).14 June 2004 at 4:23 pm #3805Ive just sent Martin an email offering any help if he needs it from “us”.
Also pointed him at Topica, Yahoo and Book of Condolences.
(I must catch up in here more bloody often !!)

He rang me within a minute of me sending him my email !
Had a good chat, will discuss with committee what we can do to help, although at this stage, it is in its infancy and may not even happen….
Will keep you posted in here and on Topica.
14 June 2004 at 7:50 pm #3808Goodo! David.
The more active members of our Brasso! team seem to be dormant at the moment, but I am sure we could be reanimated to take an interest in this. Well, I’m doing so already, but I don’t know if Ian B, Keith D, Terry G and Joe E have picked it up yet. It’s been pretty quiet around here since Gordon moved house.
14 June 2004 at 11:26 pm #3810Not dormant, just very very quiet. Since giving it a run-out and Magfest I’ve taken “La Legend de la Nonne” back to the workshop to be tweaked here and there and I’m going back to have a second crack at Les Copains d’Abord.
Since Projet Brassens will be doing their stuff in Torrington I’m not preparing anything new for September though.
I’m always interested in helping with this sort of thing if I can though.
Ian
