      She can’t stand him!

And the other night she accused me of singing Leopold Allcocks "up the chimney" at her after she’d gone to bed.

She had it in her head all night and it was still there in the morning. To be fair, once it’s in your head it won’t go.

Anyway, she has to be coverted.

      Any ideas?

Have you considered trading her in for one who appreciates a bit of Jake?
Your comment regarding songs getting in your head reminded me of an incident just the other day when I was passed by a bus with the logo "Comfy Bus" emblazoned on its side. Well, that was it: "Country Bus" came into my head and I couldn’t shift it.
I love the use of the word "combustuous" and, to your credit, the term "Jaketheist" is equally apposite.
Good luck in your quest to convert your wife. You may just have to make do with her!;)

I fear that you are just going to have to live with it. In my case we had a pre-nuptial agreement! Sadly, this does not extend to Jacques Brel, whom I only discovered a year ago. I have bought voluminous quantities of his material, but can only enjoy listening to ‘that sweaty Belgian’ when driving alone.

Thanks gents. Maybe it’s a boy thing. Anyway, she’s just read this thread so I fear I’m done for!

I think any woman who isn’t madly passionately in love with Thackray is an idiot.

I know I am. I only recently discovered him. I live in New Orleans and could be the only person here who knows who he is.

Sorry for veering violently off topic but how good is it to have someone from New Orleans on board? How are things down there?

How are things in N.O? It’s a mixed bag. Tourism is up, but so is crime. Our food is great, so is our music. Our killings not so. Our mayor has proven to be an idiot and a thief. But, what else is new?

Glad to be here. Way up with the Thackrays!

I would just say, persevere. My wife finally gave in when she realised how accurate The Brigadier is to how we grew up!…onto The Blacksmith and the Toffeemaker and she was hooked!

My wife is Dutch and has a different sense of humour. However, being Dutch, she is mad about plants, cacti being a particular favourite (we/she have/has dozens!). I played her “The Cactus” while we read the lines on this site and she’s hooked. Despite our radio’s rarely being tuned to anything but Radio 4, she’s never really understood British humour but she loves Jake’s!!

                          Thanks!

OK, OK I heard you the first time! I took my mum out in my car today and she started rooting around in the glove compartment (Yieks!! I don’t even like putting my own hands in there!) Anyway, she fished out a Jake cd and said she hadn’t heard of him in ages so I put it in and we listened to ‘Family grave’ she said it’s true tho, all those little observations. I left the cd with her to listen to
