Jake on Radio 4 this morning

At a time when most sensible people are asleep I wasn’t; it was just after 6am today and I had Radio 4 on my headphones. I was listening to a programme called “Something Understood” – subtitle The Spoken Word:

“Sarah Cuddon explores the power and the magic of the spoken word and reading aloud and samples readings by, among others, Jarvis Cocker of Tove Jansson’s Moomin Troll stories and Richard Burton of poetry by Gerard Manley Hopkins. She also draws upon music by Jake Thackray, Ella Fitzgerald and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.”

That’s right, Jake Thackray! Sarah said ” He understood perfectly that the words came first”. She then played Lah di dah. I love that song, so gentle but also funny.
