      Featured on Radio 4 this morning for about six minutes – our very own Paul Thompson spoke on the religious programme “Sunday” about our hero, against a background of snippets from as many as four of Jake’s songs.

      He described how Jake’s songs are “peppered” with references to Jake’s Catholicism – via Sister Josephine and the songs “artful use of vulgarity”, and the reference to the rosary in “On again!” and the irony of his appeal to the “mother of God”.

      He mentioned serious songs, including carols and the landscape of Yorkshire, how Jake shied from public view – and how in the last decade much more material has been found, in recognition of this “unique genius”.

      And the piece ended with a shameless plug of a DVD that’s available, apparently!

      Hopefully it’ll soon be available on Listen Again and maybe even download – listen from about twenty minutes in.

                I don’t think POTW featured it; I listened yesterday and didn’t hear it mentioned, and when I heard that they keep previous recordings of POTW for 30 days I also listened to last week’s in case it was on there, but I don’t think so.

                Did anyone else listen to Pick of the Week?

                  Unfortunately we did not make the cut. Still, sales have been fantastic following the Radio 4 piece and the YouTube trailer for the DVD has now had well over 1000 views. Watch out for reviews in Mojo and R2 magazines in the next month or so.
