Apologies for putting this in the wrong section of the site, but I am delighted to announce that John Watterson (a.k.a. Fake Thackray) has a new album out, produced by the same team (Will Thompson and yours truly) which recorded The Lost Will and Testament of Jake Thackray.
The album is called The Resurrection of Frédéric Debreu. It features a collection of songs I have written with the novelist Alex Marsh. In the tradition of Jake Thackray and Georges Brassens, the songs are by turns humorous, satirical, absurd and poignant, full of larger-than-life characters and tales of small-town life. They purport to be English adaptations of songs by Frédéric Debreu, a legendary, enigmatic (and entirely fictional) chansonnier created by Alex for his comic novel, The Resurrection of Frédéric Debreu. (I recommend checking the novel out on Amazon.)
This album sees the birth of a new genre in music – the Franco-Yorkshire chanson concept album. See what you think, as Jake would have said. We quite like it, and are proud of what we have produced.

Such a celebration was the very first in the theatre where the original event had taken place. It was brilliant … and so is THE RESURRECTION OF FRÉDÉRIC DEBREU.
Although the two pals (whose songs were all written decades before the end of the last century) had obviously no hand in the craftsmanship revealed by these eleven new “chansons”, the latter undoubtedly offer a taste of the humour, wit and spirit displayed by both masters.
There is therefore no reason to despair for those who have unfortunately been unable to come to the Sherman Theatre on 14th November. Several masterpieces (let me just mention, to avoid using too much space, THE VENGEFUL WIDOW and the poignant HER PRECIOUS SON – my number one favourite so far) can be found in this offbeat pearl oyster of a cd.
In fact Alex Marsh, Paul Thompson, John Watterson and Will Thompson have done so well in their common venture that one suspects both Jake and Georges may have been whispering to their minds, ears and hearts.There is a wonderful review of the album from David Kidman of Fatea Magazine.
