Given the current wave of anger toward many a statue in this country, how far ahead of his time was Jake with his song “Famous People” ?
HughieI agree totally. Such a shame that such a brilliant song was never released in Jake’s lifetime. Like The Bull, it has a timeless truth to it.
I started singing this one about a year ago in clubs. As well as statues, I think it has implications for all attempts to make grandiose public statements of one’s own importance – the modern equivalents of which are, of course, Love Island, The Only Way Is Essex, Big Brother, Geordie Shore, etc etc ad nauseam. Maybe it’s not so much that Jake was ahead of his time, as that mankind seems to have a tendency to discover new, more advanced ways to show off one’s self-importance and inadequacies in public, and then become instantly forgotten…
