Hello I’m new to the site and hoping to pick someones learned brain
1. will the new Jake Thackray release be available on vinyl?
2. I’d love to get hold of a copy of Jakes Progress the book. Does anyone know what it contains, is it just his lyrics or is there some other written material within. My searches have proved fruitless, aside from a copy for sale on amazon for £50

Qn 2, one went on eBay last week for just under £15 I think. There is a preface which is reproduced on Edmund Chattoe’s Jake pages (see links section although the page has been slow to load/unavailable recently).cheers
Ian
22 March 2006 at 12:59 pm #4804The answer to question 1 is an unequivocal no, I’m afraid: strictly CDs. On question 2, there is a substantial, but by no means complete, selection of song lyrics and a longish foreword by Jake, taken largely from his live onstage intros. There is also – oh joy, oh rapture – an extremely patronising preface by Dame Esther Rantzen. #50 is way over the odds and it’s doubtful whether even #15 is a good price, given that this site has a more complete collection of the lyrics and there are other plans afoot for publishing Jake’s writing/talking.

Estha Rantzen; I don’t want to litter your site with profanity so i’ll just sit here seething.
By the way if anyone is interested in Thackray vinyl there’s always something knocking about on ebay, also worth checking the spelling, found some records under Jake ThackEry
31 March 2006 at 1:23 pm #4807and I can recommend http://www.netsoundmusic.com which has many vinyls and, interestingly, some CDs too including Live in Germany! Just do a search on Jake Thackray.
Funny how dame Esther annoys people (including me) but I have to say that last night’s programme on UK TV called something like ‘How to have a good death’ showed her in a very good light – but then that’s going a bit off topic!31 March 2006 at 1:25 pm #4808Sorry, that should be http://www.netsoundsmusic.com
3 April 2006 at 1:32 pm #4809I’m surprised she didn’t take the obvious opportunity to air ‘Last Will and Testament’ as the perfect set of instructions to those attending funerals…

Can someone please explain why we don’t like Esther Rantzen?
