      Welcome Aliw2001 – our 500th member.
Congratulations Gordon – here’s to the next 500.

Before we all get too euphoric, it’s worth noting that, just two nights after its long-overdue tribute to Jake, Radio 2 has tonight, in its Sunday Half-Hour at about 9.20pm, credited Remember Bethlehem (in a rather lovely choral version) to Howard Goodall. I have complained angrily and hope many others will do likewise – it is sheer unprofessional imcompetence.

Only a couple of hours or so later. Looks like the radio 2 show’s done its job.

Who is this Howard Goodall, anyway? Does he know that Jake’s song has been erroneously credited to him? Does Bucks Music know?

It’s not Howard Goodall’s fault. He’s a good man – best known, perhaps, to your general punter as the composer of the sig tune to Blackadder and the Vicar of Dibley. He also wrote a musical with Melvyn Bragg called The Hired Man (if I remember aright). He’s a very good composer, and I’m quite sure he never made any claim regarding Remember Bethlehem.

Well let’s get euphoric again – to balance the Beeb’s boob (can I say that?) Bob Brainen just played Jake yet again on WFMU in New York – the 4th time in 5 weeks – this time he played Country Girl and lamented Jake’s passing on, of all days, a Xmas eve. That will be available as an online archive – like all Bob’s shows – in perpetuity!

                  Pam Archer wrote on Topica as follows;

Listening to Sunday Half Hour, Roger Royle has just recited the words of "Remember Bethlehem", correctly identifying the author as JT, prior to playing a choral version of the song …

So it seems Jake did get his credit as well. But as Howard Goodall writes choral music, I presume the BBC should more properly have said "choral arrangement by…" rather than "written by…"

I hope we may be getting some members from the new Jake Remembered section as well. I’ve had a few very positive responses from those I’ve written to about using their words, and who have obviously checked it out.
Any negative ones yet, Gordon, wanting you to remove their bit?

…….and member #1000 comes and goes without comment from the board – thats a bit of a shame.

*******CONGRATULATIONS Gordon – 1000 members and going strong ********

Who would have thought it a couple of years ago?
And who was member #1000 by the way?

Great news – how did that happen without us noticing?

It just keeps going up and up – welcome one and all!

                                1007 now! Isn’t that great!

Is the welcome to new members post still easy to find – the one that tells people what they can find here and when the next Jakefest is? (and so on….)

Now 1100 and still rising. Who said that it wouldn’t last? Onwards and upward.
