I’ve just posted this on Topica, but I want to liven things up here too – are you all asleep, hibernating, or what? So much happening, but no-one’s saying anything!
Sad about Norman Newell; thanks for the link to the tribute, and nice to see the Jake mention there too.
John Dunn died a couple of weeks ago too – Radio 2 presenter for many years, with a delicious voice, and a real pleasure to listen to. I’ve got a recording of an interview he did with Jake in about 1981, just before "And Songs" was to be released – great listen.

Radio Times has, of course come up trumps (!) The Christmas Edition is now out, so I have checked 9pm on Christmas Eve, and sure enough there it is "Jakefest – a Tribute to Jack Thackray". Can you believe it???? The only mention of him for years, and they go and get it wrong! It’ll be worth listening to anyway of course. I wonder if it will be online for those friends in far off places – like America, Australia, New Zealand? Just in case see if you can get Radio 2 now, so that you’re ready for the big night!
I’m surprised there’ve been no comments about Sister Josephine kicks the habit. Where are you all? It’s so exciting, but a reall bu**er that Roger has had to be excused after all that he has done. Get well soon Roger! There’s a great poster on the websites – just check them out.

OK, that’s three of us – and a few others have been seen behind the bike sheds in one or two other places – but where’s everyone else? Out Christmas shopping I suppose.

Well, I’m not posting off-topic on Topica any more, so I’m just keeping an eye on the nothing that’s happening on the board. Plus I’m under the weather- have been for a few weeks; age, I think.
Frankie as Diane had to be all floppy and weak, which is so unlike the Frankie we know that she must have been acting. I was making coffee, Charles saw her and called me in; he was strangely awed to realise that someone he had met was actually on the telly, just sat there glassy-eyed for a few seconds while it sank in :). Not much of her last night though; wonder if she’s in it next week too. Her billing was quite high.
SJKTH – can’t stand Steven Appleby’s cartoons – never could. I presume he can draw, so why does he affect that wobbly naive style, I wonder. But I plan to be there for the show, with Judith.

On second thoughts, it already exists – it’s the other 364 days of the year so rightly despised, when people still declare war on each other, cheat, lie and rob each other and instigate political, racial and sexual crimes. At least on Christmas Day most of this is called off for a bit, and the rest is still done but with an amusing hat on. So, it’s commercial ? Have you seen Merry Hill in May ? So it’s corny ? Maybe you forgot the point, and as a hint, it’s not PlayStations, Morcambe and Wise and port. So it’s out-of-date and unfashionable ? So are good manners, speaking properly, writing in SMTHNG OTHR THN TXT, not drinking alcopops till you’re sick at the bus station, and looking after your neighbour’s house if he leaves the door unlocked and I’m sure I’d be happy to see those back. Ho ho ho !

Being serious for a moment, some time ago I used to sit on a thing which we have in Scotland called the Childrens Panel, which is akin to being a lay magistrate for issues arising from children in trouble for one reason or another. Sadly, contrary to Malcy’s rant, the emergency cases which we had over the Christmas/New Year period were some of the more unpleasant ones.

Me, I’m just wondering when, after a 30 year gap of the agnostics and the Tories running the nation’s morals, people will realise it’s not working and rediscover the original values of Christmas, the ones which even the non-religious can’t argue with.
