Sorry, getting back to topic (this is called “New Site” isn’t it?)
Only, what’s happened to the date format???? Why can’t it just be 15.01.04 like normal people use? ๐ก
16 January 2004 at 4:36 am #3486OFF TOPIC! Ha, that’s a first!
Hang on, claresdad, how come she goes to Brownies AND Girl Guides???16 January 2004 at 5:24 am #3488BTW, don’t believe everything you see in the ‘Online now’ section. Gordon is on to it!

I think your avatar is printed vertically but was taken while you were in a horizontal position – legless on the floor!
Go on, own up!

18 January 2004 at 5:58 pm #3508This looks impressive! Ah but is it true?

Yes, apparently I was here all night recently (only I wasn’t!) The numbers don’t seem to add up though – is it just a hiccough Gordon? This is what it looks like now:

claresdad152 guests???? and “13 members”, but only six names?
And another thing ……… well, just a little thing actually. On the first jt.com site you used to tell me when I’d last visited and how many messages I hadn’t read yet. That was good – can this one do that? It was nice to be able to send and receive personal messages from there as well. Oh, and last thing, you used to tell us the record number of people on line at the same time; can you still do that?
Otherwise no complaints!! ๐ ๐
18 January 2004 at 9:30 pm #3512I am having problems seeing all messages when I use Netscape Navigator. No such problems using internet explorer though. I have only just started to have this problem recently. I can see the first and last messages in a thread but nothing inbetween

OK, you got me there, Girls’ Brigade it is then, whatever ‘it’ is.
Yes, there is a problem with the ‘Online Now’ numbers – Gordon is on to it and will sort it out when he has time. I suspect that a true reflection of numbers is if all who log in, log out!
Cheers (Auchentoshan, in honour of Gordon, Fiona and Ian Burdon, who I met earlier today in Glasgow!)

May I add to Pam’s shopping list, Gordon, based on previous sites?
A list of members would be nice.
And can you do a flashing icon to indicate those threads where there is a mail unread by the person logging on?
‘Cos I don’t think I am getting emails about all the postings in topics to which I have subscribed. And of course a section for Brassens lovers – but I know that probably takes some planning.

In answer to Pam’s shopping list, each system that I have used to run the site has different features to the other and obviously different limitations. At the moment there is not an option to show “last visit” or “most people online” but the software is constantly developing so you never know. Personal messaging will be coming soon (there are a few little niggles with it) although it won’t be part of the discussion area, it will be a menu item.
In answer to Judith’s questions, there is a member list module for the site software but again there are a few niggles with it. I also miss the “flashing icon” and hopefully this is something that the developer of the forum will encompass in his next version of the component.
I do intend to add a Brassens section, not only in the discussion area but also in the main menu (bit of biog, the audio clips of jake chatting about georges etc.).
There are obvious differences between the latest version of this site and previous versions. I will try to include as many of the missing features as soon as they become available for this system. ๐

I think I’ve found out why: there are two threads called “New Site”, Ian’s and Sue’s, and I was only subscribed to Sue’s, thinking it was the other one. Actually I think the two threads could quite appropriately be merged, if that is an option.

Just wonder whether you’ve noticed the facility on the main Discussion Area page under the “The Jake Thackray Project Discussion Area” title to “show latest posts”, which will give you a clickable list of all messages posted during the previous 4, 8, 12, 24, or 48 hours, or week. When you click the post’s name that opens the topic at that post. Most useful, I find.
22 January 2004 at 7:19 pm #3521Yes, I have used the ‘latest posts’ link, but for some reason have not found it reliable, I think because it didn’t always seem up-to-date. I’ll give it another go – but I do have a weakness for flashing icons.
