I have just discovered this site and am really looking forward to seeing Sister Josephine Kicks the Habit. I now live in Barnsley so will have no trouble getting to Huddersfield or Leeds.

I saw Jake at the Black Bull in Whetstone (North London) in the early 70s. He was fantastic. It was because of him that I learnt to play the guitar (nowhere near to Jake’s standard though) because I wanted to sing his songs. The only one I ever managed was Ullesyes, a very sad song about a dog.

When Jake was next appearing at the Black Bull I had intended to go to see him again but was unwell, I asked a friend who was going to apologise to Jake for my not being there. My friend came back with a note for me written by Jake which says, ‘Your absence is excused – Jake’. I still have that piece of paper as it always brings back happy memories of him whenever I see it.

Sorry if I have bored you….Nick

        Welcome aboard, Nick!

No, you haven’t bored anyone. This is one place where people are always interested to hear memories of Jake – what you say about Jake’s note is wonderful, and all too typical of the man. As well as this site, have you discovered the Topica discussion list for Jake Thackray? Sign up there (www.topica.com) for free.

Do keep your eyes peeled for future Jake events – there are several things coming up in the next few months.
