Please may I have your support for my 3-year-old grandson Archie, who has developed septicaemia after a heart valve repair, and is in intensive care. Prayers, thoughts, candles … any life-sustaining offering will be appreciated. Thankyou.
Judith

16 February 2005 at 2:10 am #4384Hi Judith
I’m one of those recently infamous lurkers that never posts!
However….
I just wanted to let you know, your news has been read and send best wishes to Archie from Viking country.
16 February 2005 at 2:24 pm #4390Archie is now out of danger and recovering slowly, though he will be in
intensive care for some days yet, and up to three further weeks in
hospital. He has come back from the brink, and your support is
greatly appreciated by his family and of much comfort to me. Thanks
are not enough.Judith

Great news about Archie – it cheered me up to read he is out of danger.
It must be great relief to you all.

I think that we are all releived that Archie in on the mend. Every time I hear of a young un that is in hospital for whatever reason I thank the Greater Being that we have never had any problems with Clare.

27 February 2005 at 4:33 pm #4421Judith, how is Archie now? Hope he’s going on alright.
27 February 2005 at 4:56 pm #4422He is still moving slowly forward, but very slowly. He was only taken off sedation and woken up on Thursday, and is not surprisingly a grumpy and miserable little boy still. I am expecting to hear today that he is out of intensive care at last, but he has several weeks to go still in hospital, receiving IV antibiotics.
I am still burning a candle for him night and day. I found some Church candles which burn with a splendid powerful flame but it keeps me awake at night, and the modern tealight barely burns 4 hours which is not enough for a night’s sleep. (Can one still get Price’s nightlights I wonder?)
So I have resorted (through the kind offices of my local pharmacist) to using Jewish Memorial Candles (re-dedicated to the sustaining of life of course) which are made to burn for 24 hours, and come in little glass jars of their own. They are just right for sleeping with. (Funny how comforting a nightlight is, even for a granny.)I am off again for a few more days with Archie’s brother and sister, where I have the use of the family computer, so don’t have to be completely out of touch. Thanks for your thoughts.

As the Candle Factory is now undergoing redevelopment as a happening place to live in SW London I rather think that the nightlights are no longer available.
I am glad that Archie is on the mend, and hope that he will soon be able to return to his home a healthy youngster.
Regards
Dave

DaveI presume you are referring to the Price’s Candle Factory – fancy you being there with just the information I asked for – and in the off-topic section too!
The Jewish Yahrzeit Candles I am happy to say I have found available on the internet, in their glasses or as refills.
Talking of buying on line, I have just taken delivery of my daughter-in-law’s on-line Tesco order, for a family of 5. It has nearly finished me off getting the fridge and freezer stuff stowed away, never mind the rest! I had to do a complete reorganisation of her freezer (which she may not be pleased about!) – but in fairness to her she had to place her order from one of the nurses’ computers in the hospital, without any reference to what there was at home. Anyway, I can leave the rest for my grandchildren to put away when they gat back from school.
Upon which boring domestic note I will finish. There isn’t a yawn symbol, so I’ll give you some others.
2 March 2005 at 2:36 am #4439Hi Judith
Glad to hear Archie is making steady progress.
I don’t have any special candles but I’ll burn some Danish tea lights in his honour.
Please keep us up to date on Archie’s progress.

I had great news this morning: yesterday my grandson Archie and his mum went home at last from hospital, after nine weeks.
He has not yet recovered full use of the left side of his body (following the stroke he suffered in the crisis of septicaemia), but within hours of getting home he had progressed to sitting unsupported on the floor and raising his left arm by itself on command! He is a brave little boy, full of spirit, and working hard towards his own recovery. So we are all rejoicing, and I thank you again for the caring
thoughts and enquiries which have meant so much to us.Judith

I visit rarely and have browsed through your postings about Archie.
Just like to wish Archie and you all well.
Best Regards
James2 January 2006 at 5:05 pm #4694It is a very long time since I reported here on Archie’s progress, which is partly because he came home from hospital still disabled by the stroke he suffered while unconscious with the septicaemia, and the prognosis did not seem very positive. However, despite various scares and setbacks he has continued to make slow progress, though unable to use his left arm and leg properly. When we saw him in September he was only able to ‘get about’ on his bottom, dragging himself with the heel of his good foot.
But my very best Christmas present has been to have him walk through my front door on Boxing Day, supported by his father, and to see him walk around the room by himself, just holding on to the furniture. He can also stand unsupported for a few moments at a time. He is now 4, and as bright as a button, and the realisation that improvement is possible has put a new sparkle in his eyes. He delights in showing off his newly acquired skills, such as standing on his ‘bad’ leg while he operates the pedal bin with his good one!
I am so thankful for all the support he and his family have received and cannot think of a better way of greeting 2006 than with this message.
