The BBC Transcription Service was, I believe, the means by which the BBC used to distribute its recordings of radio shows for use overseas, in the days before digital technology: the pressed recordings of radio shows on vinyl. If you look on eBay you will see copies turning up for other artists, although this is only the second time I have seen this Thackray-related item. The last time a copy turned up I bought it for a bargain price of £15 or so. It arrived from Australia within 5 days, in perfect condition.
It is in the nature of these items, I suspect, that they will be in mint condition – the LP may only have been played once on an overseas radio station before being put into storage.
This show was recorded at the Wavendon Festival a decade before Jake recorded Jake Thackray and Songs at Wavendon. The set is half an hour long and features the sort of short introductions Jake used back in 1970/1971. The songs are all well-performed and familiar.
