Many thanks for your words of encouragement, Pam.
By the way, do Jake’s friends in and around Wales know that the people who run the Sherman Theatre have announced “two very special Open Days“, the first one being on 14 September … next Saturday, then !
Besides, as you say, Pam, they stress their intention to “mark the 40th anniversary of the original opening of the Sherman Theatre” by a “celebration”, adding that “The Sherman Theatre opened its doors on 17 November 1973 ” … which was three weeks after its inauguration with the Thackray-Brassens concert organised by Colin Evans. SO … 😉

        Hi
I’m Alan Williams daughter and I have expressed my interest regarding a celebration of Jake’s genius. My dad loved Jake, and their creative relationship marked a special period in his life. It would be great to get the event off the ground.

S.O.S. – Thanks for this contribution Hayley. I am sure the perfect team your father made with Jake is remembered by hundreds of visitors of this topic and you can imagine that I am, like them, a fervent supporter of the appeal in your last sentence.
The more so as, since Ian’s post, ten months ago, a number of other artists have told me about their wish to perform on such an occasion.
BUT ( here it comes … ) the organiser René Griffiths had found for us ( see five posts above ) is now confronted with family cares that keep him on he continent most of the time and finds himself no longer in a position to look after the “organisation requirements”.
Which means that unless a few other admirers of Jake-Georges-Colin’s or/and Alan’s in the vicinity of Cardiff quickly join forces with the tiny group there who are doing their best and take over from him I am afraid …

It is now clear that the fear I expressed six weeks ago ( see above ) was … not groundless.
And it’s consequently time for me to apologise for having failed to get my idea changed into a prroject … and actual event on the mid November weekend.
The number of artists who wished to take part had grown over the months to a very encouraging level and I am very sorry for them.
So had the number of viewers of this topic ( over 1800 now ! ). But I must add that only a “handful” of them pushed their interest to the point of expressing their views, which could obviously have been useful.
What remains to be wished is that … 2014 might be another year – Who knows ? …

2015 now … and it’s clear ( considering the growing number of viewers of this topic) that the interest in Jake and Georges is bigger than ever.
I am sure the people who love the songs written by those two extraordinary artists can get interested in what was recently produced by a very close friend … of Jake’s great French pal.
So I hope the following link to an English version of Joël Favreau’s “cadenas” will help them a little bit to move in that direction:

More about Joël: As some may know, he was with Brassens in TV shows and on his LPs, playing the second guitar, from the early seventies until … October 1981.
Below is the text I … tried to sing in the video above. I must say that Ray Brown, Pierre de Gaillande and Carol Evans kindly helped me to get to that first English version and I am very grateful to them. Many thanks to Paul too, whose further suggestions of improvement, received … a few days after the recording, unfortunately, are given below as well.
Hope some of you might thus be tempted to have a go at the adaptation. But the thing to do, in the end, is to listen to … THE REAL THING.

« Bad luck » on Le Pont des Arts ?
                LOVE … and PADLOCKS

                Chorus :
Is it just bad luck that the padlocks
That cluttered up the whole railing
                On the « Arts Bridge » ( where wind’s blowing ),
                Having become heavy like rocks
(So tightly had they all been bound !) …
Suddenly pulled the handrail down ?
                1)
From « High Up » aren’t we thus told
That insults like those won’t do,
That imprisoned love is a sight one should not behold ?
                True love scintillates like gold
                And accumulates « value »
From the open air where « it can breathe » as people do !
                Chorus
                2)
It’s not as bad as a threat,
Just a wink from a free dove,
A piece of advice about the space each lover should get.
No true love thrives in a net,
No lid should be screwed above :
Life is only fulfilled when we wed Freedom to Love !

Paul’s suggestions for the chorus and first verse :

Is it just bad luck that those padlocks
Which cluttered up the old railing
                On the « Arts Bridge » ( where wind’s blowing ),
Having acquired the weight of rocks
(So tightly had they all been bound !) …
Suddenly pulled the handrail down ?

From « High Up » are we not told
Insults of that sort won’t do?
That a love in chains is a sight one should not behold ?
True love sparkles just like gold
Ever growing in « value »
From the open air where « it can breathe » as people do !
