I have to start a new thread for this, as it doesn’t seem to fit anywhere else.
I have been reminded recently of a couple of years ago, when I first decided to try to sing The Brigadier and Sister Josephine at a Singers’ club where a wide variety of accoustic music and poetry is performed. Most of the attendees were very pleasantly surprised to be reminded of one of Britain’s great songwriters and, later on, asked me could I remember any more.
More recently, I have been receiving reports from a number of the local clubs (folk and otherwise) where others have performed songs from Jake’s wonderful repertoire.
Perhaps I am biased, but it appears that the popularity of Jake’s songs is continuing to grow all the time.
As I am only a very limited amateur performer who, in the words of Billy Connolly, sounds like “a goose farting in fog”, I have no intentions of posting recordings on here or YouTube, but I hope that the practice does continue to grow, and that the rest of civilisation come to remember and love Jake’s music through this excellent medium.
