“This Song is Offensive”: a gala tribute to Jake Thackray - 21st October 2012

Jake Thackray’s songs, like those of Brassens, were witty, scabrous, rude and poetic and are celebrated in this tribute night.

The highly respected John Watterson, AKA Fake Thackray, performs authentic versionscarefully selected from the Jake Thackray oeuvre. John’s performance is pitch-perfect,delivering Jake’s songs with immense gusto and with a strong Yorkshire accent.

Rudolf Rocker, whose concept album about the port of Whitby has just been released to little acclaim, pay homage to Jake’s hero Georges Brassens, playing Thackray by way of Brassens and back again. If that makes sense. Legendary DJ and writer Bob Fischer, one of Thackray’s biggest fans, will join in the fun.

This BBC-licensed DVD, professionally produced from the original BBC masters, features all of Jake's performances from the series: thirty of his greatest songs, along with his inimitable between-songs chat and storytelling.

Also included are previously unreleased performances by three outstanding guest artists: Ralph McTell, Alex Glasgow and Pete Scott.
