Jake Thackray Tribute Night - Friday 1st March

A night of songs both written and inspired by Jake Thackray.

Jake Thackray was one of the UK's finest lyricists. Best known to television audiences in the late 60's and early 70's for his topical songs, Jake's witty, comic, tragic and distinctly Northern songwriting won many fans at the time and a whole new cult following since his death in 2002.

To celebrate what would have been his 75th birthday, The Polite Room is dedicating an entire evening to the genius of Jake with contributions from local songwriters including PETE SCOTT, NEV CLAY, BEN HOLLAND and RUDOLF ROCKER FEATURING BOB FISCHER.

Enjoy the Polite Room bar specials: 4 bottles of Becks for £11, all Fentimans Botanically Brewed Beverages £2, and a bottle of house wine for £10.

'Magnificent' (The Independent)

'Jake Thackray and Songs', broadcast in 1981, captures him at the height of his powers; it paints an intimate portrait of Jake as a live artist, playing to audiences in the small venues where he felt most comfortable.

This BBC-licensed DVD, professionally produced from the original BBC masters, features all of Jake's performances from the series: thirty of his greatest songs, along with his inimitable between-songs chat and storytelling.

Also included are previously unreleased performances by three outstanding guest artists: Ralph McTell, Alex Glasgow and Pete Scott.
