Hello all, having heard that the original bust I had made went missing after The Blacksmith and the Toffee Maker closed, I decided to have another go at him only learning halfway through this endevour that John Watterson had very kindly bought the original and donated it to the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth. I thought you may be interested to see the second one, as here are a couple of photos. I have the mould for this bust and would love to have it cast in bronze, and placed somewhere relevent to Jake. I would need help with funding and finding a place for it. If you’re interested please get in touch.
Great job again, Ned. You’re right, the original bust is now in the Savoy Theatre.
I have not seen it but been sent by a Mitchel Troy friend an article from a local paper with a photo of it in the presence of both John and one of Jake’s sons.
John was giving a concert there a few days later !
It would certainly have been fantastic if you’d been in the audience… but I guess you probably (like me) live a bit far from Monmouth, unfortunately…
Hi Michel, Yes down here on the Essex/Suffolk boarder it would be a bit of a trek. Hope you like the “new” bust. I personally think it’s a better likeness than the original, a few more years experience shows. Still hoping to get this cast as a true Bronze for Leeds or one of Jake’s other haunts.
The newspaper cutting that Michel refers to can still be found online; I just googled “Savoy Theatre in Monmouth. bust of Jake Thackray” and there it was.
