‘supplique pour etre enterre a la plage de Sete@
I am having a look at this one again. i find it packed with vocabulary and literary and cultural references. Its tune does not grab the casual listener however. I think it has the continuous roll of the express train (No TGV s then!) but even more the neverending sound of the sea .
when I went to Sete to find Georges’ tomb, it was a sweltering July day. We had to ask the ‘fossoyeur’ – actually the Gardien de la cimetiere where to find Georges ( we tipped him!) . The grave was under a pine tree (Pin parasol?) but of course not on the beach. It was shared by his sister and in the middle was a tall cactus. I thought it was a sort of phallic joke. Might be just my dirty mind. I am not a person to go on pilgrimages or visit graves normally. This was an exception and I am glad I went. It was a calm and happy place The town itself is still a working fishing port and it was so nice to see the place that Georges knew as a child.
I still can’t do verse translations but if anyone wants to use what I do as a reference for a singable version do so .i will post later when I am satisfied with it.Joe

‘scuse my ignorance, but what is the actual title of the song? And where could we find it? I’ve got one LP of Georges and some other tracks, but I don’t recognise what you’ve described so eloquently, and I’d like to do what you suggest! :ohmy:

But I hope Joe will get his up soon.
