I hope no one minds me opening a new topic directed at one specific person but recently posted on the “Jakefest” topic is an unassuming message from Alan Williams’ daughter.
Tucked away somewhere in the very bowels of this website’s forum will be a whole section devoted to Alan: (I know because I started it, blissfully unaware, at the time, that the great man had died).
Hayley. at the risk of coming across as some sycophant (and unable myself to access the seemingly defunct postings) I can assure you that your Dad was practically revered by everyone who appreciated his contribution not just to Jake’s recordings but also to his live performances. Seeing Jake perform solo was a treat in and of itself : seeing him accompanied by “him with the furniture” was a real pleasure.
Anyway, I’d best not go on ( and on…). Suffice to say that on the couple of occasions that I had the privilege of speaking to him, your Dad came across as a real gentleman, in every sense of the word. You can be rightly proud of him.

          Is this the thread, Hugh?

Welcome Hayley. You’ll find many admirers of your dad’s playing in these parts.

            Hi, Hayley.

I can second (third ?) Hugh and Jamie’s tributes to your dad. I’ve been playing bass all my adult life and have also been immersed in Jake’s recordings for a similar length of time : your dad’s melodic, sensitive, complementary playing has always been a source of pleasure and inspiration for me.

My father would have been very touched to know that he inspired some of you guys.

I’m hoping that Hayley still visits this site.
If so, I’m even more hopeful that she’s acquired the dvd of her Dad performing with our Jake.
Are you still “out there, somewhere” ????

I do not know whether Hayley visits the site still, but can confirm that we sent her some complimentary DVDs for her and other members of her family.

                      Hi there
Yes, i did get the DVDs, thank you all very much. One copy is in New York, one in New Zealand, one in Exeter, one in Cardiff and one with me in rainy Pembrokeshire. We are all grateful to have such a treasured token of our dad’s time with Jake. Thanks again. Hayley x

Great to know that THE dvd has gone international.
It won’t be the first time that Jake’s songs have been heard in New Zealand as I visited that most lovely of countries in 2007 and sang a couple of verses out loud (albeit only to a field full of sheep !). I’ve also sung some Jake in Sydney Opera House (admittedly in hushed tones !)
I’d love to know what they make of him in New York !
Anyway, thanks for the message Hayley. It must give you “chills” to see your Dad in his prime. It certainly brings back happy memories for us.
