      A clip of Phil Jupitus performing ‘Isobel Makes Love…’ has recently been posted on YouTube, under the aegis of the Idiot Bastard Band. The group is playing a gig imminently in a London pub. Details as follows:

      Phill Jupitus, Neil Innes, Ade Edmondson, Simon Brint & Rowland Rivron.

      Watch in amazement as these five comedy chancers rehearse live a selection of comic songs by the likes of George Formby, Half Man Half Biscuit, Jake Thackray, The Mighty Terror etc., and some new originals… This will be the follow up to the band’s successful international debut, and perhaps also its international farewell gig. It could be the start of something beautiful, or the end of something rather nasty. If you’re not there, you’ll probably be somewhere else.

        I enjoyed that! They’re nearly as good as our performers on Jakefests – and okay, he was reading the words, but at least that meant he got them right.

          I echo all of those comments. Phil and Ade seem to really enjoy the lyricism of Jake. I have to admit to using idiot sheets whenever I do any of Hake’s songs, purely because of advancing age and a horror of the possibility of messing up some of the greatest writing in music. I might now add “Isobel” to my repertoire during this year.
