Last night Bob Brainen ended his show with The Black Swan. That’s about half a dozen Jake songs played on his show since November. If you go to this link it will give you links to all the playlists and the archived shows with Jakes songs featured. The shows are two hours long so if you don’t want to take them all in ( although I would highly recommend each and every show ) you can use the playlist to approximate where Jake’s song will appear in the show.

It’s good to see serious Jake songs in there – and this one is rather constrained by the studio setting and not easily approachable, I feel – and not just the amusing songs.

(Edited this after I actually looked at the playlists and saw that it’s roughly 50/50, depending on how you classify Ulysses.)

I find the song choices very interesting. Bob Brainen only heard of Jake in the last few months and, as an American has no ‘history’ with Jake. If you ask most Brits about Jake, I’m sure the majority will think of Braden’s Week and Sister Josephine, whereas Bob just has all these ‘new’ songs to choose from.

          So far he has played

          The Last Will and Testament
          Country Girl
          Pass Milord the Rooster Juice
          Ulysees
          The Black Swan

Not being too good on irony, I’m fraid, I have to note that all those listed are precisely Jake’s early Braden songs.

Bob played Old Molly Metcalfe on his show this Sunday 6th Feb – just after Eric Dolphy and Fairport Convention. Link below:

Listening to Bob Brainen tonight (Sunday 20 Feb) and at 8:45 pm he played The Rain On The Mountainside. You guys keep George Bush over there and we’ll take Jake.

Those of us in the New York area who couldn’t be bothered with the Oscars were entertained by Bob Brainen on WFMU radio and tonight he played Joseph by JT. Archive of show is here:

You’re getting much more of Jake over there than we do in England………… Is this all down to you? If so well done you! Interesting to see that it’s from the Project CD. Does he just happen to like Joseph?

When Jake is played on the BBC it nearly makes headline news – the last we had was Christmas eve – admittedly a full hour’s worth, but since then – zilch.

                          Carry on enjoying him!

Well I sent him a couple of albums and he instantly liked them – he’s played a song almost every week – it wasn’t all me – David H had a hand in there too. Being familiar with his show and his tastes I just knew Jake would fit there.
