Hello fellow Thackray fans,
Long time reader first time post-er.
Towards the back end of last year I was contacted by a journalist from the Guardian (Tom I believe) who said he was doing a piece to commemorate the passing of the great man for aforementioned publication (I run a pub called the Blacksmith and the Toffeemaker which apparently makes me an authority…). The thing is I can’t seem to find any evidence of said article online and was wondering if anyone else had clocked it? Otherwise I can only assume even the most competent journalist couldn’t assemble my inane ramblings into a readable piece of work. Not for the first time…
Any help offered would be hugely appreciated.

Hey Matt, Great to hear from you! I became aware of your pub (thanks to the Internet) only recently and think it’s a great way to keep Jake’s memory alive.
But I can’t help with your Guardian article; I haven’t heard anyone mention it either. Fingers crossed someone will know something.

Hello Matt, Sorry I can’t help you with the News paper story. But I wonder whether you would like the life size bust of Jake that I’ve made for your pub. It’s Bronze/Resin, so could be set up indoors or out. and would hope fully generate a bit of interest in Jake among your customers. Pictures of the bust are already on this forum, but to save you hunting around. I’ll post one again.
I’ts just an idea, don’t worry if your not interested.

Thankyou, The bust in the photo is sitting here. If someone can use it, then I’m pleased for them to have it.
Obviously I would like to cover the cost of making it, but would consider loaning it out for events like “Jake fest”.
I made this one to give prospective customers a better idea of how the foundry cast Bronze would look. I’m pleased to say that Monmouth are planning a “music trail” with a bronze Jake at the end of it. This is still in the very early stages of planning at the moment, and nothing definate.

Some time ago someone else from Monmouth contacted this board about engraving Jake’s signature on the new glass doors of Shire Hall, along with other Monmouth notables. I was able to send a scan of an orginal signature and I understand that it was used and now graces the doors of Shire Hall. Haven’t seen it yet, but would love to. This music trail seems like a good reason to visit Monmouth at some point in the future!
