Jakefest! A Celebration of Jake Thackray

We are delighted to announce that Jakefest 2024 will be held in Liverpool on Saturday 23rd March.

Join us to:
• meet up with friends old and new
• hear Jake’s songs
• perform his songs
• learn how to play his songs
• learn about his remarkable life

The venue is The Casa, a pub and music venue on 29 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BQ.

The Casa is a fifteen-minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street Station.

Programme

1.00pm – doors open

2.00pm – open mic session
A chance to sing Jake’s songs in front of a supportive audience. (If you would like to perform, info on how to book a slot will be posted shortly in the forum.)

4.30pm – Jake’s life
Paul Thompson, co-author of Beware of the Bull – The Enigmatic Genius of Jake Thackray, in conversation about Jake’s life and the discoveries made researching the book. Includes a special guest appearance by Rick Irons, Jake’s brother-in-law.

5.30pm – informal guitar workshop
A chance to share and pick up tips on playing Jake’s songs.

7.30pm – ticketed concert
Featuring some of our most experienced performers.

The afternoon programme is free.

Hi, Thacksters !

That was a brilliant JakeFest, folks ! I’d like to thank all the performers – Emily Erblich, Ian Cockburn, Jamie McCoan, Jane Thompson, Joanne Holt, John Blake, Jonas Söderström, Jonny Shock, Lucy Lockwood, Maggie Press and the Topica Ladies, Mark Wainwright, Paul Cross, Paul Thompson, Phil McGinity, Simon Bond, Tessa Lowe – and fellow conspirators Mark Wainwright, and Jane and Paul Thompson, all for helping make the JakeFest such a successful event. Everyone brought their A game and played brilliantly and it was, again, a privilege to tread the boards with all you fellow combatants in the eternal struggle with Jake’s lyrics, phrasing and chords !

You’ll be pleased to know that I successfully bootlegged both performances and will be chopping it up into sets for each player. First, I shall take some screenshots from the footage of all the players and post them here. .

Also, thanks to Paul and Jane for hosting and feeding me so excellently, to Rick and partner for their company, and Jamie for the unexpected chauffeuring. Here’s to the next time I put on the baggsy hat !
