“Le 33 Café-Concert” in Montreuil-L’Argillé, near Bernay ( http://www.letrentetrois.com/index.php ) will be having its 2013 St Georges on the … following Friday ( 26th April ).
The principle of this event is that each participant can perform up to three of Brassens’ songs.
As this little Norman concert hall is always lucky enough to have about a dozen British “regulars” in its audience it would be great, almost forty years after the big Sherman Theatre event, if Jake’s versions of Le Gorille ( Brother Gorilla ), Je rejoindrai ma belle ( Over to Isobel ) and Marinette ( Isabella ) could be performed on this occasion.
So if Ian, Paul, Glenn or any other of the usual fine performers of both artists’ songs happened to be on holiday in Normandy at the time … their presence ( with their guitars ! ) would certainly be most welcome …Double-checking … is always wise: the Montreuil-L’Argillé 2013 tribute to Brassens will finally take place one day later, on SATURDAY ( 27th April ) then, at 9 p. m., 33 rue Grande.

It is also interesting to note that Pauline Swann, a regular of the place, Jake fan, and fine jazz singer from the Midlands, runs a B&B nearby ( http://www.lagrangeorbec.com ).Hi Michel, I wanted to draw your attention to this post: http://www.jakethackray.com/forum/2-jakes-music/3486-shakespeare–brassens–thackray.html – I’m working on a conference paper which looks at ‘The Gravedigger’, which seems to be a tribute or homage to Brassens’ ‘Le Fossoyeur’, though not a direct translation – as someone familiar with both, do you have any thoughts on the specific relationship between them, particularly from the point of view of the translation of ideas rather than language?
