New to Jake – converting to mp3?

I was recently introduced to Jake and absolutely love his style and wit and have just bought the best of Jake Thackray CD. I only have a CD player on my PC and use my Ipod for listening to all my music, but I cant seem to convert this album, it has its own player that will let you play it on the PC but how can I convert it so I can listen to it out and about? Someone must have done this surely!

Yes – this one has a copy protection method by playing the CD through a front-end player when you play it on a PC. So you need to try and get round it – entirely legal, obviously, as you’ve bought the CD and are making a copy for your own use. 🙂

Been out of touch with you all for a few years as I noticed mail was not automaticallly coming through. I note you have been busy with lots of new stuff and so I have just ordered the Jake in Germany one.

Happy days. All my professional gigs were done with it apart from one, and I still play it live every week. Now on its 3rd set of flatwound strings since I bought it new in 1978. L)

I’ve had no problem converting either of my Jake CDs with iTunes on my Mac. Could be a PC thing, I don’t know. Perhaps you could access the actual files on the CD and drag the files into a new iTunes playlist then once the files are copied (they’ll be large) convert the selections to MP3 or AAC or whatever you’ve got iTunes set for. Once converted copy them the mp3s from your library to your playlist, and you’ll want to get rid of the .aif files from said playlist and library since they are huge.

Put the CD in the drive – but keep your finger on the left-shift button to prevent the player from starting automatically..

Now start up Windows Media Player – you should be able to rip the music now – provided that the Album shows up when you hover your cursor over the "play" button at the top of the WMP page..
