Having assisted a little with the research for this I am happy to say that it is a completely new documentary, and should prove very interesting. Look out for John Watterson (a.k.a. Fake Thackray) amid the cast of thousands talking about Jake.

Just listened to it on iplayer and really enjoyed it. Saw Jake three times live and have all his music but still learnt a few new things.

Yes, indeed. It was a really interesting programme. Full of insights into the great man. It’s a strange situation in some ways in that Jake so adored Georges Brassens and yet couldn’t seem to accept that he himself was so admired. No doubt repeated listenings will raise more issues.

An extract from the programme was featured on “Pick of the Week” yesterday evening (6.15pm Radio 4)! coming in at about 37 minutes started with Gorilla, then Cerys Matthews spoke about his relationship with Brassens – more of Jake speaking – a song by Brassens, finishes around five or six minutes later. I’d emailed the programme in the hope that they might play something, but she never mentioned me……………..

I recorded it so that I could listen in the car….. :). It’s a 67Mb mp3 file.

I fear that the phrase “it’s a 67Mb mp3 file” may as well be in Greek for all that it means to me (& I’m quite willing to accept that that is MY problem and no one else’s). I know my car has some sort of mp3 system built into it but although I’ve had the thing from new, 6 years ago, I have absolutely no idea what it does.
When the programme was first aired I set my Youview box to record it. I listened to it “live” but the following day when I called up my recorded programmes it announced that the “recording failed !” Marvellous. My wife’s endless “soaps” had all recorded perfectly but not Jake ! File under, “You couldn’t write it”.
Anyway, may you have many more opportunities to listen to the programme.
I’ll just muse over my complete ignorance of modern technology.
(I wonder what Jake would have made of it all ??)

Happily, part of “67Mb file” is indeed Greek (Mb is megabyte, mega meaning large) :). The point is that it’s too large to email, but there are other ways. Maybe you could send me a private message, if the forum allows it (I don’t seem to be able to do that)
