Thanks Sarah, that sets the scene splendidly for us – and you’ve even found sensible answers for some idiot questions – or parts of them anyway. I love the idea of being able to relax in one place, especially for those of us who get worried if there is more talk of beer than of food. I reckon we shall have another ‘wow’ for the record books.
Roll on September! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Is there a camp site or a caravan park that would do weekend hires nearby? It strikes me that the local B’n’Bs may well fill up rapidly with Thakoraks

There must be. There are loads of them round here. I’ll ask at the TIC when it’s open next week. Failing all else, I know people with fields!
24 March 2004 at 2:21 am #3738For accomodation go to the Great Torrington official site at http://www.great-torrington.com/index.htm click on the accomodation link then click on the TARKA-COUNTRY.CO.UK link. I did.
But don’t try booking at the Cavalier Inn,,,,,,,,,,,, I’ve already booked it. Sorry. 🙂 😡24 March 2004 at 3:39 am #3739…and as of this afternoon, Malcy, Bob and Jake’s Wake Brassens guy Geoff are booked into three of the rooms in the Wyburn House too. So there may only be 2 rooms left there !

28 May 2004 at 2:57 pm #3795Hey guys,
I went to see Ralph McTell last night at Bristol (and very good he was too).
I spoke to him afterwards and he brought up the subject of Torrington. He said he would like to go as he would like to see you guys, but Sheila in particular.
I’ve sent my bagsy list to Malcy, so I should be there.
All the best,
29 May 2004 at 5:19 pm #3796that’s great news. I emailed Ralph about the Jakefest a while back, but hadn’t heard from him since. It would be really good if he could make it, especially as he’s done so much to sort out the song rights. I’d certainly like to thank him personally.
See you there!
29 May 2004 at 5:21 pm #3797Help – I’m being called a visitor, even though I’m logged on. Topica keeps rejecting me, too. Ever got that unwanted feeling?

3 July 2004 at 4:52 pm #3938Hi Sarah,
I hope you are well.
I will happilly talk to you about the event in September, I am very pleased to say that I have booked holidays from my work and I will be attending with the lovely big chap. Is it going to be a similar format to the one we came to in York?
Really looking forward to seeing everyone. I’m going to try and post a photo on my next message, but I will do it in the off topic forum so not to upset anyone! 🙁
Any recommended B&B’s in Devon anyone???
See you all soon
Love
Fiona
:y32b4:5 July 2004 at 3:52 pm #3939Ok the Morgans have booked at Hill Farm Cottages and will have a spare room if anybody is struggling to find accomodation.
Bring it on!
5 July 2004 at 6:18 pm #3940Hi Fiona,
Looking good! I’m so glad to hear that you’ll be coming to Torrington in September. I’ve emailed Gordon a list of local B&Bs and campsites, and I’ll send it to anyone else who asks, too. Gordon may even be able to put the info. up on the site somewhere, who knows?
The Saturday night will be similar to the York one, but there’ll be a lot more space and cabaret seating, and good food available in the building as well as a bar. There are a lot of other things going on as well – Friday night’s ‘Projet Brassens’ cabaret jazz performance of the songs of Georges Brassens, meetings and workshops in the day on Saturday, and possibly ‘brunch’ in the Plough on Sunday before everyone sets off for home.
There are lots of things to do in and around Torrington for anyone who’s been dragged along and doesn’t want to join in the Jake stuff (can there be such philistines?), and none of them are unduly expensive. If anyone wants to know more, they can get in touch with me by email, and I’ll send them details.
What else would you like to know?
14 July 2004 at 1:47 am #3946Hi Team (x posted from Topica sort of…)
With thanks to not so anon, it looks like I might manage TorrFest but am in search of transport from and to Telford. As soon as I have a willing victi …. volunteer, I can try and find a bed for the two nights.
Thanks and 73 to anon,
hopefully see ya’all at Torrington.
14 July 2004 at 11:52 am #3947Great news there Dave the Drum !
One thing – in the URL bar at the top of the screen which leads to your post, it ends
catid=3&id=666#666
which is doubly the Number of the Beast. Please shave your head prior to arrival in Torrington so that we can check for tattoos.
22 July 2004 at 6:43 am #3951Just as you guys are raving it up at the Jakefest, I’ll be going on again, on again at my book launch.
Not attended by the frigging Brigadier but other local dignitaries will be there and most of my friends, in spite of the fact that it’s a non-alcoholic do!I’ll promise to think about you if you’ll spare me a second or two…
