The suggestion I made two weeks ago about a possible location for Ned’s bust of Jake brought me to think that it would be great to have a Jake and Georges night at the SHERMAN THEATRE ( CARDIFF UNIVERSITY ) in eleven months from now, the precise date being 28th OCTOBER 2013, in other words on the 40th ANNIVERSARY of the BIG EVENT .
« See what you think » … and thanks for dropping a word on the forum about the idea …30 November 2012 at 1:18 am #6080Hmmm, I might even take my guitar out of its case and try and remember how to play it for something like that…

6 December 2012 at 8:59 pm #6086Hey Ian and Pam … it looks as if the idea were on its way, then …
“ would anyone be able to organise it …” Now, couldn’t that be an exciting challenge for a “near neighbour” like you, Pam ?
🙂9 December 2012 at 10:48 pm #6088Sorry, Michel that’s a non-starter on many counts. I don’t live anywhere near Cardiff for one thing and I’m no good at organising on a large scale and don’t do very well on a small scale either.
But I’d love it if someone could……………….

5 April 2013 at 4:34 pm #6139help – i’ve got this bearded frog nagging me for a jake/georges celebration in october to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the sherman theatre gig.
i am running a community cinema at a community centre in blackheath se london and there is a possibility to run a gig on friday 25 and saturday 26 october 2013
it would take the same format as the last gig with a variety night on the friday night and the jake/georges on the saturday.
before i embark on planning the gig i would like to know what backing there is.
i anticipate a charge to cover both gigs of £8-10
this charge would apply to all attendees whether the greatest chansonniers or the worst amateur. If jake and georges themselves turn up they’ll have to pay.
i’ve worked out the ball park figure and this would cover the hire of the hall with a spare room with no spare overs to pay anyone’s expenses.
should i go ahead with the planning or not?email me with your willingness to pay the appropriate charge and willingness to perform on tg@pvr.co.uk
I’ll give it a month and work out if it’s a goer. I’ll let you know in the second week in may on this site and then we’ll know.luv tg
21 April 2013 at 1:33 am #6145I hope Terry has already received a number of enthusiastic messages about his proposal.
Let him be assured of my readiness to take part in the Kent event on the announced basis to the best of my abilities, although it might well be in the “worst amateur” category, I am afraid !
… And I would gladly repeat “the effort” a few days later in Wales if we did manage to find an organizer there.
I’ll be spending the coming weekend in Powerstock ( Dorset ) and wouldn’t mind moving a bit further North and even cross the Welsh border on Monday 28th or Tuesday 29th to meet some of the supporters of “the dream” who might live in the area and offer some help to change it into A PROJECT. So, tell me …
The Bearded Frog 🙂24 April 2013 at 10:41 pm #6152Hi Michel
If you ever make it as far as Cheshire, let me know – it would be good to meet.
27 April 2013 at 2:57 pm #6153The “dream” of a South Wales tribute to Jake, Georges and Colin:
Two Cardiff friends of the university French teacher “who made it all happen” have volunteered to help in the search of a venue … AND AN ORGANIZER who would turn the idea into an actual project.
We shall meet on Monday and talk things over, which means that it should be possible to share a bit more about the subject on this site in the near future.
Thanks for your kind offer, Paul but I have booked a ferry back to Normandy on Tuesday night and that won’t allow me to to push to Cheshire. But another time … with pleasure!28 April 2013 at 11:43 pm #6154Bon chance, Michel et vos amis!
(It’s all very exciting!)
8 May 2013 at 1:22 pm #6157In the course of a very intersting meeting with three Penarth & Cardiff friends of Jake’s at Chapter Arts last week, a few names of people who could help us find the much wanted Welsh organizer have emerged.
We may now consider that the idea of a South Wales tribute to Jake, Georges and Colin in a few months is making good progress.
For various reasons the event would have to take place in November rather than October though.
More about this soon, I hope.
( In the meantime “see what you think” … and don’t hesitate to write about it here ! 😉 )23 August 2013 at 8:32 pm #6176“Soon” ? Well, not quite maybe but I am glad to tell you that, thanks to Karl Francis and René Griffiths, a Cardiff artist with a strong interest in both Thackray and Brassens and a talent for organizing cultural and festive events has accepted to explore the possibility of getting a venue for the 16 – 17 November weekend.
So, I hope I’ll be able to come back to you with some good news … soon !25 August 2013 at 8:10 pm #6177Fingers crossed, Michel! The date’s in my diary, well done for all your hard work so far. Here’s hoping!!!
Pam
31 August 2013 at 1:50 am #6181I’ve just been looking at the Sherman Theatre website which is celebrating its 40th anniversary itself this year! The Jake/Georges concert must have been one of the first there.
In my collection I have an LP of Georges’ performance on that occasion, recorded (just as Michel says) Live in Cardiff oct. 28th 1973 at the University’s Sherman Theater (that’s how they’ve spelt it). It’s a Philips album.
