Shingles

Hi newbie here so forgive me if I am being stupid but I vaguely remember from the 1970s a song that may have been sung by Jake about shingles – there is a line about meeting in the middle- can anyone point me in the correct direction to find it. If it was not done by Mr Thackery can you suggest who may have sang it.

Welcome aboard. Sorry for the slowness to reply, but a lot of the discussion now tends to happen on the Jake Thackray Appreciation page on Facebook, so if you are on FB, I’d recommend going there. I’m the co-author of the Jake Thackray biography, Beware of the Bull. In all the research done for the book I never came across a song about shingles, I’m afraid. It is possible that Jake did do such a song (we found 25 lost songs during the course of research for the book, in TV and radio archives), but he certainly never released it on record. ATB Paul

Sorry for the late reply.

There is a Noel Coward song, “That Is The End of the News” that has a line about shingles meeting in the middle. Not from the seventies obviously but it could well have been performed on TV around that time as there was a bit of a Coward revival going on (e.g. the revue “Cowardy Custard”). Jake is often compared to Coward, of course.
