Hello you may remember some time ago I posted photos of a bust I’d made in the hope it would find a home somewhere appropriate to the memory of Jake. Well I’ve cast the bust myself, in bronze/resin and thought you’d like to see how it turned out. I posted a couple of days ago, saying that at present it’s going to my local secondary school, to help students with their portrait work. I still have the mould and further casts could be made including a “real” foundry bronze, if anyone wants one. I wondered whether the local Weatherspoons to Jakes home would be interested in taking a bust, as they are quite keen on featuring local artists down here in Suffolk.
      Thanks for taking a look.

It’s great, Ned. Amazing likeness. I hope you can get it placed somewhere suitable.

I second Phil here – it’s a fine piece of work indeed, and one you will feel very proud to have created. Well done, Ned.

Thankyou, glad you like it. I can’t help thinking that before long Jake is going to be completly forgotten. I’m 50 next birthday, probably a bit younger than most of Jakes fans, but even I recognise the man had an incredible talent and a sence of being particularly English, I would love to see him properly remembered hence the bust. I think he represents a time that has past.
Todays mainstream music is all gangsta rappers and get rich quick, the quality, skill and imagination has gone. If we can get this bust cast in Bronze and erected somewhere the general public could see it, hopefully it would generate a fresh interest in Jakes work, and keep it alive. I have the mould, but no contacts in “the North” so any help promoting this idea would be gratefully received.
            Thanks again, ned

I have no contacts ned, but the location could be Swaledale, Leeds or Scarborough. My back garden would be nice and I’d certainly let people come in through the side gate!

Thanks Phil, I thought Monmouth to, I’ll have to do a bit of research into suitable locations in the town, also try to contact anyone there who maybe able to help putting the idea to the right people. here’s another pic.

Hey, Ned, look, I’m no artist (in ANY sense of the word) but I think I can recognize good work when I see it and I think I’m looking at such stuff now.
                    Well done that man.

Thankyou Hugh and anyone else who’s commented. I’ve been in touch with Monmouth Town Council, and I’m pleased to say that there is some interest in the idea of the bust being cast in Bronze for the town. One lady in particular is very keen it should happen. I’m currently gathering quotes from a few art foundries for the council to consider. I will be spending the day at the Zahra foundry in Braintree next friday learning how a bronze is made and discussing ways I may be able to reduce the cost of what is a very labour intensive process. Keep your fingers crossed, Please.
                      Thankyou, Ned.

Great work Ned! And it’s most encouraging that Monmouth Town Council is supportive. Some time ago someone in Monmouth contacted this board wanting copies of Jake’s signature to be added to some glass doors on their Shire Hall. I was able to send some to him and he has now sent me photos of the finished item – although it’s not easy taking photos of glass doors!

I contacted him again when I saw your latest postings, to see if he thought the Shire Hall might be interested, but he said their main interest is in the Chartists. I also asked him about pubs. He said that Jake frequented a few (!), and he named three but said two of them are now chains (one is a Wetherspoons). He wondered if the other one might be interested though – it’s The Gatehouse, which is privately owned and run by Mr and Mrs Ramsden.

We’re coming up to the tenth anniversary (I think you may have already said that?). Seems like an event that should be marked somehow.

Beautiful piece of work, Ned, I fully agree with Philreckless, Malcy Hugh Williams and Pam ! 🙂
I am afraid I’ll have to disagree with you on one point, though 🙁  : I’m sure you’re wrong when « thinking that before long Jake is going to be completly forgotten ».
Indeed, the fine bust you have taken pains to craft contradicts your own pessimistic thought !
Just think of the way Georges Brassens and his songs were celebrated in 2011, thirty years « after » ! And no one can dispute that those two were BROTHERS in ARTISTRY, don’t you think ?
Well, among possible locations for the bust, did anyone think of the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff where the two friends gave their common concert, almost forty years ago ?
But in that case you’d have to cast another bust for Georges …

Hello Michel, and thankyou for your kind words. I sincerely hope I am wrong when I say that in time Jake will be forgotten. It’s just that when I mention the bust to anyone, it always gets the same response. Who?
Jake was from a different era. The sort of talent that he had with words and the guitar, just don’t seem to interest people as much now, and it’s a real shame.
Thankyou for suggestion about Cardiff, not sure I’d sculpt Gorges Bressans, as it’s been difficult trying to get anywhere with the Jake sculpt. I’m also trying to get the BBC interested in a bust of John peel, and I’ve a small model of Kylie to make.
I’ll keep the you all posted as to progress.
                            Thankyou again, Ned.

One more word about the idea of the Cardiff University as a possible location for the bust : With her husband Colin Carol Evans took an active part in the organization of the famous 1973 concert there. Well, maybe one of the members of the JT website could contact her to « see what she thinks » …

Hello again, No response from Monmouth yet, but I guess it’s something that has to be discussed at a town council meeting. So I imagine it may be a week or two before I hear anything. Thankyou for your suggestions, If nothing comes of the Monmouth enquiry, I shall be following them up.
                                All the best, Ned.

                                  Anything from Monmouth, Ned ?
                                  And by the way …
… about future gigs involving the songs Jake and Georges have so generously left us with :
Does anyone share the idea I put forward a couple of days ago there : http://www.jakethackray.com/forum/3-the-project/2853-sherman-theatre–jake-and-georges-2013.html ?
If so, thanks for having your say on that new topic.
