Hello I have just received this from Debbie in Monmouth. She still seems keen on the idea but as usual there is no money.

Thanks for getting back to me Debbie, I’ll forward this to the fan club in the hope that there’s still enough enthusiasm for the bust idea that some one will offer with help towards funding etc.
Look forward to hearing from you.
      All the best, Rob.

      Hi Rob

Sorry for not coming back to you sooner

We can’t use this on the gateway scheme. However, I think it is a great idea and am currently trying to get some people interested in taking it forward.

Our problem is that we currently don’t have any spare capacity both in resources and finances so I would have to form a group and then get them to go for funding.

I’ll get back to you as soon as I can

      Debbie

            Hello David,
Thankyou for your comment, There hasn’t been any more communication between Debbie and me since that last post, So I’m not sure whether the “idea” is still alive. However, if you’re anywhere near London, the cold cast bust you’ve seen pictures of is at The Blacksmith and Toffee maker pub, in Islington. Matt who runs the place, is hoping to have it on display very soon, just awaiting a big enough shelf to take it. If you speak to him nicely, I’m sure he would let any fans see it.
Thanks again, and keep your fingers crossed for the Monmouth gig.
            Cheers Rob.

              Hi Rob,
I live in France, so not much chance of seeing the sculpture in the round, however, speaking as a professional sculptor of 35 years experience it looks like you’ve done Jake proud.
              Best of luck,
              David

A professional sculptor!!! Man you are living my dream I work 3 shifts in a shitty factory making flavours for crisps!! Thankyou for your kind words, post some pictures of your work. Having travelled a little in France I know they value and encourage sculpture much more than in the UK.
                Thanks again. Rob.

In fact I have to disagree. In my experience the art and craft scene in Britain is massively more widespread than in France.
There are art markets here, but the craft scene in Britain is, or was, much more professional, better organized and followed by the great British public.
If you want to see the diversity of my sculpture and jewellery you can do so at http://www.dkemp-art.com
After that, all I can say is that the dream is there to be lived. First you need to be confident, but always cautious. Find the market place for your work and dont try to be too ambitious at first. Craft fairs always did it for me as I found galleries too up their own back sides.
Variety of subject matter and new designs all the time. Passion about your work and you have to be able to talk to your public.
I have done projects like you have done on Jake and the rejection can be soul destroying. You have to have a thick skin.
Good luck any way and if I can do what I have for the past 30 odd years anyone can.
                  David.
