The Cenotaph

I’ve heard a couple of covers of this song – one on Youtube from Jakefest, and one on John Watterson’s “Lost Testament” It’s an incredibly powerful song, and I’d love to hear Jake sing it. The only recording I’m aware of was on the BBC’s The Camera and the Song. Has this ever been retrieved from the BBC archives? Or are there any recordings of Jake doing it live? It’s too good a song to be lost.

Hi Paddy.

I think it may be me you’ve seen performing this on YouTube, in Scarborough with Hugh Bradley on bass. I know of only two recordings of it by Jake: one is on The Camera and the Song and the other is on a radio programme–I think a Ralph McTell show–that Jake was a guest on. I have that on an old cassette somewhere I think.

I listened to it earlier and the sound quality is poor (I think my recording is 3rd generation), but I’m happy to send an MP3 of Cenotaph.
