Just to finally put this to bed, and again in thanking Mark Sturdy, I was just about to make my next “posting” when I realised just how long ago it was when I first raised this issue : 13 years. THIRTEEN YEARS !!
As with “sbriddon” the memory of Jake carrying on with his song having just been “flanned” will live on with me, now I KNOW that I didn’t dream it.
Hughie20 July 2020 at 11:32 pm #7067Hopefully we won’t have to wait another 13 years before we get to see it again!
28 July 2020 at 4:13 pm #7070Thread now moved to ‘Jake’s Music’
9 October 2020 at 11:48 pm #7079My Dad, Alan Williams played bass with Jake. I came across the Tiswas clip for the first time yesterday. I’d love to share the clip but I’m not sure how to upload it here…. try this https://www.facebook.com/699749873/videos/10159083700069874/
10 October 2020 at 2:49 pm #7080Do you know, I couldn’t be happier !
Thanks Claire.
(And, just so you know, your Dad was a lovely bloke.I’m fairly sure we’ve discussed this previously but you can be rightly proud of him !)10 October 2020 at 3:38 pm #7081Just done some digging in the “My Topics” section and found the many tributes to Alan Williams which were posted eleven years ago. There’s also a section “F.A.O. Hayley” which may mean something to you.
Hughie10 October 2020 at 5:45 pm #7082Brilliant Hughie! Just found the Hayley thread. That’s my sister. Proud that my dad is being remembered here in this forum. The Tiswas clip is such a classic. Like Jake, my dad had a great sense of humor which is why they probably got along so well. Poor Jake got hit hard by the Phantom!! I’ve watched this clip 20 times already and can’t get the song out of my head!
10 October 2020 at 6:14 pm #7083I’ve had the song in my head for twenty odd years (and no one believed me ! Lol).
So pleased you’ve posted it (and found the tributes to your Dad. If you can piece them all together you’ll realise that most of us had no idea that he had passed on. It was a bitter pill for us to swallow so goodness only knows how it must have been for you.)
Thanks (Thanks ? That doesn’t begin to cover it but you know what I mean !) again, Clare.
Hughie12 October 2020 at 7:21 pm #7084Rather like a dog with a bone I just can’t let this go !
Having at long last established that this really did happen, I’m now wondering what the “back story” was. Obviously someone somewhere came up with the idea (“You know who we should get on ? Jake Thackray !”). Someone else then agrees. And then Jake has to agree. And then he roped in young Alan (who clearly enjoyed seeing his old mate getting “flanned” !) I hope Jake had a change of clothes with him ! Lol.
Anyway, maybe John will unearth the story in the biography.
Hughie13 October 2020 at 12:46 am #7085Ha! Yes, I wonder how that all came about. I worked in TV for a couple of years in London and know how much back and forth goes on with the Talent Artist Relations/Production teams. As a kid, I always wondered who the Phantom was and wrote to the show a few times trying to get on. I found this article and it sure looks like the Phantom got a good dose of his own medicine for his 80th a couple of years ago, though not as bad as Jake got pied!!! https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/phantom-flan-flinger-tiswas-gets-9565513
John should try and get hold of the producer Glyn Edwards who’s in Brighton, I’m sure he’ll remember the story https://www.punch-and-judy.com/
