Is there any news on this? It’s ages since it all first started, have I missed it????
23 June 2006 at 2:51 pm #4890No, you certainly haven’t missed it, Pam, and I wish I had some news. The fact is that the BBC, who according to Victor are extremely happy with the programme, are just being unbearably slow in scheduling it. I saw the finished show months ago and I think you’ll agree it was well worth waiting for – but I’ve no idea why you have to!
Rest assured, as soon as a transmission date is fixed, we’ll be shouting it out everywhere!
Ian W30 June 2006 at 2:22 am #4891Not exactly Stop Press, but the Beeb has now said that the documentary is being scheduled for an autumn showing – probably first on BBC4 – and that an announcement is likely to be forthcoming around mid-July.
We shall see.
Ian W30 June 2006 at 3:41 am #4892Not exactly in much of a hurry then.
Thanks for the info Ian
13 July 2006 at 9:53 pm #4901Sod’s law will no doubt kick in and the documentary will be broadcast between the 15th and 29th September;that’s when I’m out of the country ! Can they get B.B.C.4 in Italy ?
26 September 2006 at 10:17 pm #4977As quoted on the News page here: JAKE DOCUMENTARY – BBC 4 – 6/10/06
I can confirm it’s true! Next week’s Radio Times, page 111, BBC4 9pm Jake Thackray: On the Box, followed by 10pm Jake Thackray: His Songs. It’s RT’s Choice for the day (!) which means that there’s a bit of a write up by Geoff Ellis on page 108.
Just my luck that I’m going to be away from home, in all probability nowhere near a TV that can get BBC4 on that Friday…………..

2 October 2006 at 4:30 pm #4979Pam,although it’s galling for you that you’re unlikely to be able to see the documentary as it’s aired I think you can rest assured that at least one of our 1600(!) members will be recording it:his name’s attatched to this posting! Personally I’m relieved that it’s being shown this Friday and not last as between 9 & 10.30 last week I was flying home from Italy. It’s probably of no interest to anyone but I did mumble the opening lines of "On Again! On Again!" as I ascended the steps of the Arena in Verona although I did chicken out of doing the same thing when we took our Gondola ride in Venice, prefering instead the inevitable "Just One Cornetto",but only because the Gondolier refused you understand.Anyway,I’m digressing. I’m sure we’ll all enjoy having an hour and a half of Jake on T.V. again and I look forward to reading what we all make of it next week. Be seeing you.
3 October 2006 at 9:08 pm #4982Quick update which will hopefully please Pam;the first repeats of these Jake programmes are scheduled for this Saturday night, albeit a bit late! They’re on B.B.C.4 (where else?) beginning at 11.35 through till 1.05 Sunday morning, whereupon we can all have a lie in (unless you’re working on Sunday morning in which case I’m sorry I mentioned it!). Enjoy…………..
