Love them, Glenn. Shame about the mike balance on “The Bull”; it’s lost some of the excellent words. I think your delivery is superb on all of these.

Our Dog’s a great song. I’m not surprised it went down so well, excellent!

I’ve got The Hair Of The Widow Of Bridlington sorted (well, I had to – Brid is only 18 miles away, and I live in “poor old bloody Scarborough”), and The Lodger too. I’m giving them both an airing at Loftus tomorrow night, so I’m guessing Ian will put something up on Myspace video again, and if he does I’ll post a link.

I’ve just finished recording my album, all original songs, and am thinking of doing an album of Jake covers next – if I do I’ll call it “Thackarised” (as in bastardised Thackray). I just need another 3 or 4 songs. All good fun eh.

Looking forward to meeting you at a Jakefest sometime, and hearing Our Dog. I’ll hold my beer tightly though 😉

Hi Glenn – superb! I’ve always found The Lodger a real cracker, especially for those new to Jake. Another which works just as well is Billy Kershaw.
Loved your “Widow….” (even less space!). I’ve been trying to get that right for a long time and still haven’t managed it!
That reminds of the story Bernard Wrigley told me of spending months trying to learn “On Again, On Again” – he now does it brilliantly. B)

On Again, On Again was a tricky one, but well worth the effort.

I’m sure you’ll get “Widow” before long. The speed of the chord changes seems to impress people, but because the timing is straight forward you don’t really need to think about the guitar part once you’ve learnt the changes. I love the use of the Bb, gives it a great sound.

I’ll have a look at Billy Kershaw. I’m working on Isabel Makes Love Upon National Monuments now. I also fancy playing Go Little Swale, and a couple more “nice” songs, rather than just the comedy stuff. Lets face it, they’re all excellent.

Go Little Swale is an excellent choice. This was the first “serious” Jake I ever did and everybody was asking who wrote it, where did I find it, how old is it? They were all astonished when told who wrote it – I followed it with Molly Metcalfe and that really stunned them!
Go Little Swale has some beautiful chord sequences – that was why I learned it in the first place. B)

Thanks for posting these covers! They sound great, you really can’t beat belting out a Jake song and getting good audience reaction! as well as sending people away thinking “who is this Thackray lad?” :laugh:

I’ve been really busy launching my new album recently, but I’ll be getting Jake “off the back burner” and will learn more songs soon hopefully. I seem to go through phases when I write songs or learn other people’s. Either way it’s good exercise on the old grey matter – and Jake’s songs certainly do that :S
