Great to see the new look site up and running.
I thought I would ask the above question. Do members have recommendations.
I’m a bit of a folkie, so recommend Vin Garbutt, Rory Mcleod and Richard Thompson. I have time for Tom Lehrer it’s the nearest I get to a Jake perspective – check out Vatican Rag.
… and Billy Bragg no stranger to in your face politics also writes some great love songs.
What are your thoughts – don’t agonise.
Fondest regards,
Alistair š

23 April 2007 at 11:46 pm #5191A few years ago,I compiled my "Desert Island Discs".I’m ashamed to say that the opener was Gary Glitter’s "Leader Of The Gang"(yes,I know and I’m sorry but that’s the truth of it!).There followed tracks by XTC,The Incredible String Band,Gentle Giant,Jake (of course:"The Bull",if you’re interested),Dire Straits,Peter Skellern and Mike Heron’s Reputation. Were I to compile a list today I suspect that three quarters of those artists would remain in the line-up. I’d replace the disgraced (and, indeed, disgraceful)Glitter with Ian Drury ("Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick") and I ‘d probably finish off with Bizet’s "Pearl Fishers’ Duet",sung by Jussi Bjorling with Robert Merrill.I think I’ve mentioned several other folk in various posts on this site, including Dick Gaughan and Les Barker.Tomorrow night (24/04/07)I’m going to see Robin Williamson and John Renbourn at Chester’s "Telford’s Warehouse".So,you see,it’s all rather eclectic, isn’t it?

It shouldn’t be a surprise – I love System of a Down – also Faust, Throbbing Gristle, Albert Ayler, Merzbow, Psychic TV, Derek Bailley and Pigface – if its good its good I say.
