I usually catch Mike’s show on radio 2 on a Wednesday evening and was absolutely transfixed when I heard Jake’s ‘The Blacksmith and the Toffee Maker’ played at the end of his show a couple of weeks ago…….unfortunately I was driving hell for leather throught the Hampshire countryside at the time. Not the best time to transfixed! I’d never heard it before. I’d always known of Jake Thackray, although subconsciously. As a child I remember seeing and hearing him on a 70’s children’s programme, I have no idea which one, but his voice, his intonation, his delivery and his guitar have stayed with me these past 40 years.

Since then I have managed to download a fair selection of his music and cannot stop listening to it!

Amazing, brilliant, funny, sad, tragic, moving and just so, so cool!
