Lol. Good luck with yours B)
I’m playing at Loftus again tonight. Going to give on Again On Again a whirl, so it’ll probably end up being put on video in the next week or so.
Also doing a song that I wrote for/about/with my niece, who has a brain tumour. She wanted me to write it to raise money for the “Ali’s Dream” childrens tumour charity. Should be recording it soon and hopefully make some money for them. My niece was given 2 years when she was 11, but had her 14th birthday recently, although she’s obviously very ill now. She’s a real star!
Enjoy your gig, and look forward to meeting you at a Jakefest before too long.

OakengatesI agree that Jake’s songs all sound particularly well on a nylon-strung guitar, but have to say that he always stated that they should be adapted by whoever was performing them; itself an integral part of the “folksong process”.
I have played some of his songs on almost all styles of six and twelve string guitars – “Sister Josephine” being great fun on a 12-string if you don’t mind knackering your fingers! I tend to use metal-strung, but with 9-gauge, so they do ring nicely, but need constant retuning.I’m going to start learning to sing/play some of my current favourites, although I’ve only just started listening to him recently. I think I’ll start with ‘Lah-Di-Dah’ and ‘Last Testament’. I might also try learning Country Boy to sing at church.
In the end I’ll sound nothing like the original, but there great songs in their own right so you just have to do them in a style you feel comfortable with, that’s what’s great about folk music as opposed to, er, ‘Stars in Your Eyes’.

I started (a long time ago!) with Sister Josephine, then The Brigadier – both comfortable to play and sing.
I’ve got Brother Gorilla, Sister Josephine, The Bull, On Again On Again and Only A Gypsy so far. I’m thinking of The Cactus, Girl In The Window and Worried Brown Eyes next.
The new dvd should help, a good view of Jake’s fingers. I noticed he’s got the guitar tuned down a full tone at the Unicorn though.

GlennI added Molly Metcalfe, The Lodger, Blacksmith and Toffeemaker, Leopold Alcocks, Go Lowly Swale…..in that order. Some more since, but nice ones to start with. Recently tried “Miss World” and got more laughs than ever before!
Assuming that all the friends of Jake’s who visit this site are also – like our hero himself – « des amis de Georges », may I draw your attention to an event that might interest those who happen to be in or around New York ( or who have friends or relatives there ! ) ?
BAD REPUTATION will be giving a release concert of the CD of English versions of Brassens’s songs they have recorded at 9 PM tomorrow DEC 17 at the following address: 92 Y Tribeca 200 Hudson Street New York.
The songs will be sung by BAD REPUTATION’s guitarist Pierre de Gaillande who has adapted them, with GB’s « second guitar » Joël Favreau « joining forces » !
Jake, whose English version of Le Gorille is rightly deemed « fantastic » by Pierre, will no doubt be in the minds of all attendants as well.
