sorry i haven’t posted on here before about the jakegeorgefest at welling but i have been up to my ears running the centre and i’m getting older and i promised that i wouldn’t.

i shall start organising the jakegeorgefest as an annual event at welling and will check with the frenchies for available dates in november and will set a date in the next month so you will have no excuse.

after my debut on stage as ‘the nurse’ (in front of all those teenage flimsily dressed girls) i have been ribbed non-stop by the dancers whom i see every day at the centre and lorraine has threatened to take legal action.

michel and his ‘panking pole’ song was memorable and alan franks ‘martin’ was so jakesque it was as if the old bugger was there.

      luv tg

Insatiable Didier is asking for more pics … Anyone to help him ? ( with something to beat the smashing NURSE AND MIKE if possible … – sounds like a pub sign, don’t you think ? )

If you’ll let me – I’d love to have another crack at it – hopefully sans “flu” this time. Let me know – I’ll defo be there. THe popularity of this thread just goes to show how starved of Jake we are down here in the south. The Brassens/french link makes it an attractive geographical location for them too. Please Please run it again

Assuming that all the friends of Jake’s who visit this site are also – like our hero himself – « des amis de Georges », may I draw your attention to an event that might interest those who happen to be in or around New York ( or who have friends or relatives there ! ) ?
BAD REPUTATION will be giving a release concert of the CD of English versions of Brassens’s songs they have recorded at 9 PM tomorrow DEC 17 at the following address: 92 Y Tribeca 200 Hudson Street New York.
The songs will be sung by BAD REPUTATION’s guitarist Pierre de Gaillande who has adapted them, with GB’s « second guitar » Joël Favreau « joining forces » !
Jake, whose English version of Le Gorille is rightly deemed « fantastic » by Pierre, will no doubt be in the minds of all attendants as well.

Future gigs involving the songs Jake and Georges have so generously left us with :
Does anyone share the idea I put forward a couple of days ago there : http://www.jakethackray.com/forum/3-the-project/2853-sherman-theatre–jake-and-georges-2013.html ?
If so, thanks for having your say on that new topic.

                Its been………ages!
So much happened in my life leading me to perform at the event in Welling.. The event itself meant so much to me. And so much has happened since,
I dropped into the cozy world of Jake tonight for the first time in about 4 years. and I find a number of things…..
                1. There seems to be tons more Jake stuff on youtube – Have the Beeb finally opened the vaults?
                2. I pick up the Guitar and find I cant play a single Jake song anymore – the only thing I can sill do is Remember Bethlehem – its just so beautiful , its like my mind refused to forget it. – all the lyrics to that and everything else have left me.
                3. it almost seems like a different person who had the courage to play at Welling. at the time I was playing Jake songs to anyone who would listen – I was ashamed of the recordings on the net at the time – now I listen to them again and yes – I am out of tune, but I am amazed I had the guts to do it.
                4. I had to turn off the parental protection on my broadband to access the recordings !! what is all that about???
                5. I am so chuffed that this site is still here – THANK YOU THANK YOU.
                6. Right now is not the right time for me – but I fully intend to return to performing the great mans songs in the future! My current time is occupied with toptablemodels.com – if anyone likes lego and old planes… creativity needs an outlet I suppose!

Nice to hear from you, Jason. Welling does seem a long time ago but my memories of the evening are still vivid – you were nursing a cold, if memory serves, making your contribution all the more impressive.

The good news is that, to some extent, the BBC have indeed opened the vaults, the result being the ‘Jake Thackray and Songs’ DVD which is advertised on this site and is available from Amazon.co.uk. at a very reasonable price. On it you’ll find two hours of Jake in his prime, with plenty of opportunity to see what he’s doing with his fingers, should you wish to work out what he’s playing and how. Otherwise you could just sit back and enjoy the show!

Hope we’ll see you back performing before too long – maybe at the next Jakefest!
