Hi – Just joined – Listening to a radio 4 progreamme about folk club comedians and there was a very passing comment about Jake. For the first time in 20 odd years I lifted my guitar and remembered the chord sequenbce to Sr. Jo. Stunned I googled JT and here I am – words and all –

Welcome along.
There is a thriving community here of people who play Jake’s songs – sometimes in front of audiences, sometimes in their own living rooms – but keeping the songs alive in the best way possible. You’ll notice that elsewhere on the site are the chords to almost all of the recorded songs so you have hours of entertainment in front of you!

Glad you came Sims – missed that Radio 4 prog! I’m listening to it now on "Listen again" but it wasn’t easy to find. It’s called "Follow that with your Sea-Lions".

Hey, this is worth listening to – one of the first folk clubs where I heard Jake has just been mentioned – The Boggery (yes it really was called that) and Malcolm Stent was talking about it. OK you probably haven’t heard of Malcolm Stent but he was around with Jake and Jasper (Carrott) in our area, and he still performs to great applomb (whatever that is!) (Mind you, he said it was in Birmingham, and it wasn’t at all, it was in Solihull, but to some people it’s the same thing (iggorant lot)
Listen to it if you can, fair brings back some memories…………

hello! my name is gillian tolfrey and i am a musician from newcastle. i first heard jake three weeks after he passed away when a friend of mine thought that my band should do a version of "old molly metcalfe". so we did and became instant fans.
i play the fiddle and sing, i have one little boy called frankie who i s 2 and a partner called james who is older than that. one of the bands i play in is called "the witches of elswick" and we put "old molly metcalfe" on second album "hell’s belles". i also enjoy rapper sword dancing and dancers, drinking beer, playing games, drinking beer and drinking beer. i am not old. and i have no aversion to flying.magic gillian wrote:

Hello Gillian ~ thanks for your message on the other thread and welcome to the Jake Thackray Project site. Things are pretty quiet around here over the holiday so you may not get much response straight away. It is good to know that Jake is still making new converts among young musicians and music lovers – (I think I am probably the oldest here at 78) – and particularly good to know of a woman performer of his work, of whom there seem to be very few. Keep an eye out here* for the dates of forthcoming Jakefests, when performers and fans alike get together to enjoy orgies of his music, good company, fun and beer!
* particularly in the Project section of the Discussion Forum, where there is information about a proposed Jakefest at Easter

You sound like you’ll fit right in! and Magic Gillian sounds like a wonderful companion for the Thelovelyfiona. One of the things which you’ll spot here is that a number of us try to keep Jake’s music alive by performing it – are you interested in joining our roster of fine artistes?

i’d love to! at the moment we’re only doing one jake song, but there are plans afoot to get another one in there. i’ve also got a duo with my friend maurice condie and we might sneak a couple into our set.
we’re playing down in devon/zumerzet on the 18th feb in the bridge pub in dulverton. it’s free entry, so i’m not trying to be cheeky! then on sunday there’s a session in the same place and anyone can just come and join in. i play mainly Irish music, but anything goes. i don’t know where any of you live, but you’re quite welcome to come along.

Unfortunately your gig on 18th February coincides with a Jake evening we’re putting together in Knutsford, Cheshire, but there are certainly some Project members in the Devon area. Hope it goes well!

My name’s Steve, I signed up as member a couple of days ago. I was reminded of Jake after hearing a rendition of Sister Josephine at a memorial service for a young acquaintance. I did a search on iTunes and found La-di-dah available for download. I’m so glad to have rediscovered Jake, it’s been a real joy to listen to the album, and even more so to see the video clips on this website.
