Thanks for the welcome all… i’m not generally a frequent flyer on these forums so i’m on and off here and there. Have now got all my housemates into the music of the Thackray. Am discovering more and more great stuff from the back catalogue of Jake. Are there any fans around the M’cr area….ever any Jake Thackray night around this area?

Hello! I’m new to all this forum mullarkey so bear with me. I first heard Jake as a child because my dad was a big fan. I remember seeing him periodically on TV and loving the word play, the lovely melodies and the storytelling of his songs. Apparently as a small child I could be heard singing Brother Gorilla in my pushchair but the less said about that the better. As I’ve grown up I’ve heard his songs less and less but have always found myself humming them during introspective moments, so went out and bought a ‘best of’ cd, and now completely re-love him again. Nothing makes me chuckle quite like Sister Josephine, or brings a tear to my eye like Old Molly Metcalfe. A true troubadour and poet in the French style with a liberal dose of Yorkshire good sense. Inspiring.

          Greetings –
I’m a lifelong Jake fan, since the Braden’s Week days. From Scotland, but these days living in Qatar. I keep the flag flying by performing Jake numbers from time to time in the Sofitel bar. The ones I do most are Personal Column, Jolly Captain, The Gypsy, Castleford Ladies Magical Circle. The ex-pats enjoy it but I’m not sure how much of it the Qatari Arabs understand!

Hi folks. My name’s Stevie. I’ve enjoyed listenin’ to Jakes wonderous songs since I was a kid. I didn’t really understand much of the lyrics back then but I reckon Jake is probably my favorite lyricist. Such a clever and entertainin’ use of words.
I found this site a while back but popped in to get some lyrics for The Remembrance an’ signed up today. A mate sent me a YouTube link to The Remembrance a while back an’ suggested I have a go at playin’ it. After chattin’ with him again this weekend at a bike rally for The National Association for Bikers with a Disability where I was comperin’ an’ playin’ a stage I decided to have a go. CHEERS !!….

There are many, many fans around Manchester. Look at the events pages and you’ll possibly find a tribute night somewhere within reach.
                (To Matto, by the way!)

Greetings 🙂 Great to find so many Jake-lovers around. I’m David, a sort-of-50-year-old from near Milton Keynes. Singer/songwriter/home recordist…..on a very localised scale but I love it. Been a Jake fan since I was a young thing – even during the gobbing frenzy of punk I was trying to turn people on to him. Ah, well….looking forward to joining in whenever possible and adding my own sniff of benzadrine.

Welcome – you will find this an excellent site for all things Jake related. I found it invaluable for checking words and chords to songs I didn’t fully remember (as well as some I did!)

Hi everyone I thought I’d better introduce myself. My partner has recently discovered Jake Thackray and I’m the IT literate one hence why I’m the member (although I do like Jake too) . My partner, Jonny, is addicted to guitars and is particularly impressed with Jakes playing technique along with his wordsmithness (is that a word ! lol) He has spent hours and hours learning a few of Jake’s songs and would to find somewhere he could perform them and exchange ideas with others. We are base din the North West, here’s a link to one of the songs he has learned at the end and we are planning on going to the Jakefest later in the year 🙂
