Oddly enough, I have heard an interview in which Jake was asked about his listening habits and said that he loved Steely Dan.

i first got into jake when i needed quietening down as a toddler. then when my parents played me sister josephine while we waited for an ambulance to take me to hospital, and i’ve never looked back fromthere. now im 19, probably one of the younger jake fans, but he’s so amazing, im trying to bring jake to the youth. anyhow i live in essex and study in peckham for anyone who want to know. i draw and take things to bits. nice to meet you all!

Hello everybody
Fell across this site looking for the lyrics to "The Castleford Ladies Magical Circle" (I’m writing a parody to it). Good to know that there’s so many Thackrayites. Which is another way of saying "I’m so glad it ain’t just me who still listens to Jake!"
It was Jasper Carrot’s cover of The Bantam Cock which first got me listening to JT quite a few years ago: there hasn’t been anybody quite like him.

Thought it was time to quit lurking and register on the forum. Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s I can remember Jake’s original performances on the telly, which I suppose were a little twee in comparison to my own musical sensibilities, which by then had been channeled into punk and prog rock.
However, with age I’ve been fortunate enough to find my musical tastes broadening. I caught the BBC4 specials and it brought everything back:) I now ‘get’ this fellow Yorkshiremans take on life, the subtle humour, and his music which doesn’t fit into any ‘pigeon-hole’ in terms of genre. Now then, what cds should I purchase first, maybe the live performances?

You ask which CD’s to get first; well, my personal preference would definitely be the double album of "Live Performance" (avaialable via a link on this website!). Live Performance was always my favourite LP (if you know what they were) and when the CD came out last year it was a real treat to hear all the extra tracks! I think this is Jake at his best, even with the minor errors – well he was only human wasn’t he?
Until a few years ago there was only one CD available and that had been produced in the early 1990s.
Hope you’ve managed to have a good look round here. As a lurker you’ll be aware that it has flurries of busy-ness and spells of quiet, but there are lots of people popping by most days ;o)
Anyone else got anything to offer?

Hello Johnny. Welcome along: fasten seatbelts and make sure that your seat is in an upright position!
If you have some spare cash you should also consider the "Live in Germany" cd. We produced it ourselves and spare proceeds go towards some of the things which we do (maintaining this website, putting on nights of Jake’s songs and, with a bit of luck, getting more of Jake’s material out into public again).

Greeting everyone
Just been reading through the different mails of new memebers and as a recent addition to the following of Jake Thackray thought id say hi. I was sat in the house one night channel hopping and landed on a programme about this chap who was a singer songwriter and i was fancinated. The next day i went out and bought a best of album to get an idea of his music. The guy was a genius. So i am quite new to his stuff but lovin’ it. By the way my name is Matt, from Manchester.
Welcome Matt (no pun intended!) I’m Richard from New York via Glasgow. Its always great to hear about recent converts to Jake’s music. I’ve been a fan for decades and I envy you the joy of hearing this great music for the first time. If you have a look around this site you will see there is a lot of stuff to catch up on – something tells me you are in for a treat.
