the board tells me that "this topic is sticky".
Wot’sat mean?
Sorry to spoil the mood of this thread but . . .
Normally the topic with the latest post appears at the top of the list of Topics in each Forum, with the rest in descending order of currency, so less-popular threads fall down the list. Making a topic "sticky" (only admins can do this) gives it a map-pin icon and means the topic will always stay at the top of the list, regardless of later contributions to non-sticky topics.

Not wanting to make a serious point, but I’m sure this thread would be a whole lot stickier if some of the other new members introduced themselves. Got to be better than listening to my ramblings, I do talk a lot of rubbish when I’m sober.
I wish everyone a pleasant weekend, and extend the ancient greeting: May your fruitbowl and your family be always full of nuts.

22 January 2005 at 1:45 am #4290You always hear about the child prodigies who’ve had their talents nurtured since they were 8 years old. Whether it‚Äôs golf, guitar, fishing or juggling. Anything. When I was 8 years old my parents noticed my prodigious talent for eating crisps.
Anyway, enough of my woes. I can’t really complain, I work in local government so to be mediocre is something of a blessing. To be borderline insane means you are promotion material.
Hold on,
Is the above not a description of our own Aliasmcalias?
Sorry about that Ian, I just couldn’t stop myself.

I’m not certain which element of that list put you in mind of me (mediocre or borderline insane?) but I suppose I ought to say that I work in central government rather than local: it’s your call whether the general principle still holds. It seems to me that the two categories are not mutually exclusive though.
I thought you worked for a well known motoring association anyway?
22 January 2005 at 6:02 pm #4292I wasn’t having a go at you Ian and hope that no offence was taken, if it was I can only apologise and would like to say that I do not consider you to be mediocre in any way. ‘Twas the borderline insanity bit that I was thinking of and speaking for myself I am way beyond borderline. Rather unwisely I have been chosen for promotion so the description does seem to fit me rather well.
22 January 2005 at 8:32 pm #4293None taken: I was aiming for dry, self deprecating wit but obviously fell short!

If we’re compiling a list of the borderline insane, count me in – I wanna be one of that number!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: ………. :ermm:Although it has to be said that at my time of life there can’t be many opportunities remaining for promotion ….. except for the final translation, that is, but that could easily go the other way…… 👿
There’s always my rating as a poster in this forum of course – I think I still head the list for number of posts, if not for their rationality. I’m hoping to hit the platinum level eventually!

24 January 2005 at 12:39 pm #4295Good morning to all,
It’s good to hear so many of you are blissful in your borderline insanity. Personally I find my madness makes me rather unpopular, even the voices in my head aren’t talking to me.
The main problem I find with being crazy is that no one believes a word you say. And for me, that word happens to be "pidsblufgo". Well, do you believe it? I think not.
The only difference I am aware of between Central Government and Local Government is in the spelling. It’s true, no one in Central Government can spell. And why is it that Homer Simpson blames the Department of Health for everything?

KeiwitIt would appear to me that you will fit in very nicely here Keiwit. Just how do you pronounce pidsblufgo? are the d and the b silent?
Regards
Dave
25 January 2005 at 11:40 am #4297I believe it’s pronounced "pidsbluf4go", and the "4" is silent.

I am a very simple sort of person, I don’t believe in inserting letters and then not pronouncing them. It’s uneconomical. It’s unnecessary. Let’s face it, it’s practically French.
The word "pidsblufgo" does, however, have one unusual characteristic in that the "b" is pronounced like a "t" – and hence, using the science of anagrams, it means "Stupid Golf". No offence intended to any devotees of the sport and/or the Volkswagen.
I hope that’s cleared it up for everyone. Have a lovely day.
25 January 2005 at 9:45 pm #4300Are you sure?
25 January 2005 at 9:51 pm #4301"Are you sure?"
As the atom said to the barman after losing an electron "I’m positive".

As I neither play golf or drive a VW Golf as far as I am concerned you may offend them as often as you see fit.
When I was a Patrol I was sometimes asked by the member that I had just recovered home if I would be insulted if they gave me a tip. My reply would normally be as long as you are giving me money you can insult me all day long.
26 January 2005 at 12:18 pm #4303It’s amazing how much fun you can have with a made up word. I feel like a cat with a ball of knitting wool. Or a cat with a half-eaten mouse carcass, depending on your mood.
My cat, and you must remember I don’t actually have a cat, once told me that he was the 1 out of 10 who didn’t prefer Whiskas. He also mentioned that he could very rarely taste any kind of difference in the "New and Improved Formula".
I told him to make his own f**king dinner.
Don’t get me started on hamsters.
