Hallo all,

Since lurkers appear to be disapproved of on this forum (though I can’t think why –don’t you find it flattering when people lurk inquisitively? I know I would!) I decided to introduce myself. I’m a relatively young fan of Jake’s and first discovered him about a year ago when I heard Lah-di-Dah, an utterly brilliant and subversive song and still my favourite, hotly pursued by Sister Josephine and Ulysses. Since I am also a huge fan of Jacques Brel, I was able to hear the chansonnier influence on Jake’s work at once. I have been cogitating on where Jake fits in the English folk (sort-of) tradition and musing on the possibility of writing an article on him for my online magazine, which, among other things, examines some of the quirkier areas of English culture. All of this helps to explain why I joined the site last week, although to be frank I’ve been too busy to do much lurking since then (with the exception of enjoying the witty posts on this forum). So that’s me, then.
