I used to be a member of this site some years ago, before my email got hacked and with it went several memberships. But just today I decided to rejoin.

What a welcome message I discovered on the home page!

We are pleased to announce a new Jakefest at which the new DVD, ‘Jake Thackray and Songs’ from the BBC TV series will be launched and available on sale!

Unfortunately, I’ll be performing at the Derby Folk Festival that very weekend. We’re presenting a tapestry of songs and readings called “All Quiet on the Western Front”, based on the German anti-war novel. As part of the performance I include my interpretation (on keyboard, rather than guitar) of Jake’s song “The Remembrance”, which I always find difficult to sing without getting a lump in my throat.

Anyway, the point of this message is to ask how I can get hold of a copy of the new DVD if I can’t be at the October Fest. Any advice/help/pointers in the right direction will be gratefully received.

I’ve been a fan of Jake’s since he did the Braden Beat on TV, and have just been reacquainted with my small but original collection of his LPs. I used to have the lyrics book “Jake’s Progress” and an album of piano versions, but God only knows where they went over the years.

Well, that’s enough rambling. But (again) how can I get the DVD?

Welcome back, Caller. Sorry to hear that you cannot make it to the Jakefest, but good luck with your own event.

The DVD will be available on Amazon in early October.

I too am hugely excited at the prospect of the DVD, and will be buying not only a copy for myself, but also for various of my nearest and dearest who will receive it as a Christmas Present. It is a wonderful thing that this will be available to a whole new generation of fans (and to those like me who could have seen him live but only discovered him after his death).

I do share this point of view, Brian šŸ™‚ .
And, just like you, I “will be buying not only a copy for myself, but also for various of my nearest and dearest who will receive it as a Christmas Present” !

Another new old fan coming back to Jake’s material after I don’t know how many years! I have been banging the drum about Bantam Cock for a long time, so it obviously made a big impression on my then juvenile self back in the 70’s, so imagine my delight to find a copy of the ‘Best of’ CD at Whitby this August. I’m now going ‘on again’ driving my missus insane with endless renditions of Sister Josephine, Off work, The Lodger and of course, On Again.
In my humble opinion anyone who can get the lyrics ‘rascally episcopal’ into a song should be a candidate for lyrical sainthood!
Thanks Jake, you’ve made my musical year, and I hope to spread the words to many new fans over the coming years!

Good to hear from you, Jon. If you are able to get along to the Jakefest in New Brighton on the weekend of 3-4 October, it would be great to see you there.

Any word as to when we can expect to get our sticky little mitts on the new DVD? (An exact-ish date, for example?)

Would dearly love to but I’ve had my festival allocation for this year at Whitby! I’ll try and escape and get over on the Sunday but I have a new business. Which is a cafe with music, so maybe a Sheffield Jakefest could happen soon??
                      Thinks….

I also enjoyed a fabulous week at Whitby. If you visited the Spa, I was the marshall with long, purple hair!
I am unable to get to this Jakefest (in my home area as well!) due to work shifts, but have managed to get to a “mini Jakefest” near my current home a couple of years ago.
It is wonderful to hear so many different people keeping alive some of the best-written songs of our age. Nice to hear of yet another in yourself. Welcome to one of the best sites on t’interweb. B|

Jon – best not to come along on Sunday, as the action will all be over on Saturday night!

Copies will be on sale at the Jakefest, and should be on Amazon in early October. Not long now!

Well, at long last, we have it. THE dvd ! A hearty thanks to all those involved in getting it all together. One couldn’t wish for a better product. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with it. I’ve been more fortunate than most in that I still have my original video tape recording of the series and to be fair it’s stood the test of time remarkably well but to be able to select a song and go straight to it without the need for fast forwarding is an unbridled joy ! I’d rather forgotten how often Jake changed his hair parting from one side to the other and I never understood the omission of “The Kiss”. However, that’s another kettle of fish altogether. Great that the Pete Scott songs are on there as well as Ralph McTell and Alex Glasgow.
                                  Once again, thankyou everyone.
