Thanks for the feedback. The DVD has been a labour of love on the part of all those involved and the feedback we have been getting has been fantastic. The online piece from The Independent (viewable here: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/the-bonus-track-cale-tyson-rae-morris-jake-thackray-taylor-swift-9799445.html) sums it up: ‘magnificent’. Lots of 5 star customer reviews on Amazon so far, as well. If you spot a review or coverage of the DVD, please do post news here. Likewise, if anyone has a media contact we could use to promote the DVD, please let us know.
28 October 2014 at 6:03 pm #6353There have been problems shipping Jake Thackray and Songs beyond the UK. I am pleased to report that we think that this issue has now been sorted out, and customers should be able to order from anywhere in the world (with additional postage costs).
28 October 2014 at 6:09 pm #6354i hope these aren’t in limited supply like the unicorn dvd? i daren’t grab one till after my birthday next week (if i need to at all!)
28 October 2014 at 6:25 pm #6355The good news is that we have no shortage. For the Unicorn we were limited to a run of 1000, whereas this time we have produced 2000 in the first instance and can do a further run if/when they sell out. My advice to everyone is to buy at least two, so that, when you lend one to a friend, you still have a copy should it not be returned. Happy Birthday, when it comes! š
11 November 2014 at 4:11 am #6402I must confess that although I’m overjoyed with the release of the dvd, I was rather looking forward to sampling it in the original episodic format.

11 November 2014 at 4:21 pm #6405Many thanks for your comment, Bebvesdy. As editor and author of the DVD Iām happy to take the rap for its formatting.
If weād had permission from all six guests to use their spots then, undoubtedly, we would have presented all six episodes in their original format ā titles, two or three songs from Jake, guest spot, two or three more songs from Jake, end credits. However, once it became clear that three of the spots would have to be removed we had to rethink the best way of presenting the material.
Simply running the shows with the non-cleared guests excised would have left us with three shows of thirty minutes (including guests) and three of around twenty minutes (with no guests). This seemed to me to be a somewhat lumpy and unsatisfying viewing experience ā the shorter shows might have had as few as four songs before the credits came crashing in. Other options were suggested and explored but ultimately I felt that what weāve arrived at was the most satisfying solution. The running order of Jakeās songs within each show is maintained, the transition from one show to the next is signaled by a (captioned) change of venue, and, I hope, a pleasing flow, akin to watching a full Jake gig, has been achieved.
You may well take a different view (though hopefully the above will give you some idea of the issues involved), and be assured that this was the subject of a lively debate amongst the production team. What we all wanted to achieve was the most pleasing experience possible for Jakeās fans. I hope and believe that we have delivered just that.
11 November 2014 at 4:29 pm #6406a very thorough and fascinating explanation, jamie. i think, faced with the non-compliance of some guests i would have done the same thing, quite the most sensible option.
well done i say, and thanks! can’t wait for my copy to arrive!
12 November 2014 at 11:25 pm #6407
faced with the non-compliance of some guests
In the interests of fairness, it wasn’t non-compliance. One guest is deceased and we couldn’t find any representation for their interest; Richard and Linda Thompson’s spot has already been released on DVD by RT himself (you’ll find a rough version here –
The other spot was (a) embarrassingly poor and (b) the perpetrator didn’t respond to initial requests and we didn’t try too hard to chase them.
18 November 2014 at 2:01 pm #6425Ok, I’m going to weigh in here, finally, now that I’ve recovered my composure a bit. Hello everybody. This is my first post.
I couldn’t possibly be happier with my new DVD. I still can’t stop watching it. Thank you so much to those who made it possible. It made me a strange combination of happy, sad and angry all at the same time. So, so happy to see more of him. I actually feel like I saw him live now. So artful and yet so artless! So sad they’re so long gone – Jake and Alan both, I mean – their performances are so full of energy and life. It’s hard not to be struck by the counterpoint.
And I’ve spent the last couple of years since my Damascene moment – a casual forwarding to me by my chap, of the Innes On Again clip – unable to believe that I’d spent my whole life never having heard of this man. I was hooked at that first encounter, and have not stopped listening to, watching and loving his work ever since.
I proselytise on his behalf at every opportunity! Seriously. Ask anyone. I do try not to rant and rave but I am still in shock that he seems to have been almost airbrushed from history. But I know that on here, I am preaching to the choir. Thanks again for all your work. My best wishes to those who know. Jake sans pareil.
