I thought it went quite well but then I’m biased! I took quite a few photos and will try and sort them soonish. In the meantime here’s one of Seasick Jamie McCoan

I’m planning to see Vin in a few weeks time here in Edinburgh so I may mention it again. Does he have a copy of the DVD?

I’m afraid I (for one) can’t help you on this one, Paul, but (just as an aside)is anyone else disappointed by the fact that there has been such a paucity of comments on the “Unicorn” dvd itself (barely 20 to date). If we can’t muster up more enthusiasm than this on THIS site, how are we to convince the B.B.C that it’s worth releasing the treasures that they hold to the wider public?

Hi Hugh. The problem with the BBC wasn’t enthusiasm – they were quite happy to let us have copies of the programmes (which we have the talent here to remaster); the problem was the amount of money which their commercial arm wanted in the process.

No, that is a regular show which they do as a trio.

I think I only really (knowingly) depart from Jake’s arrangements on three songs – Castleford Ladies, Thomas Haverley and The Black Swan and of these the biggest deviation is Thomas Haverley (because I don’t like the way Jake plays it). For the rest I stay fairly close to Jake except that he had bigger hands than me and was a genius.

A song which I enjoy performing. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was based on a News Report or somesuch back in the Braden’s Week/That’s Life days

I also have one or two snaps which I’ll send on by email. Pam, I’d be interested in seeing your pics too!

Andrew – sorry to hear about the sound problems. Before the master went to the manufacturers copies were played on a number of different machines from home systems through to laptops to try and ensure that both sound and picture were as good as they can be.

As matters stand the JTE have nothing panned for next year. I don’t think we’ll be at Holmfirth in 2010 although I live in hope. It did occur to me a couple of days ago that 2010 was looking quiet so perhaps we should look at doing something.

Nor do I know if there will be a Knutsford bash in 2010, Paul organises that and he has been tied up recently with the imminent DVD.

                        sorry

We are delighted to announce that we shortly expect to be taking orders for a live dvd of one of Jake Thackray’s shows. The dvd, entitled ‘Jake Thackray Live at the Unicorn’ features an entire show Jake played in 1989 at the Unicorn Hotel in Somerton, and includes both songs and ‘talking bits’. Jake is on top form, performing such classics as ‘On Again! On Again!’, ‘The Kiss’ and ‘Sister Josephine’, as well as less familiar gems such as ‘Tortoise’ and ‘Our Dog’.

For those who remember seeing Jake live, this dvd will bring back great memories. For those who never saw him live, it will be an opportunity to get a taste of the magic of his shows.

Whilst this is an amateur recording, both the audio and! video content have been professionally restored. A clip of one of the songs is now available to view on the Jake Thackray website (www.jakethackray.com). Click the TV.

This will be the first (and may well remain the only) footage of Jake on dvd. It will be produced as a limited production run of either 500 or 1000 copies, with an expected price of £15 (including post and packaging for UK only). We need to gauge likely level of demand before we finalise production. Please email webmaster@jakethackray.com if you wish to express your interest in the dvd; if you anticipate wanting more than one copy (with Christmas approaching!), please indicate the likely quantity. Further details regarding how to order will follow in due course.

I’m not sure if Terry has publicly advised a date yet and I’ll leave it to him – but late November looks to be it

Didier would not need much pursuading – he and Terry Grant have been trying to get me and others over to France for a while. And I suspect Didier may be in Kent in November…

feel free to organise a Jakefest on the other side of the channel! It would be a good excuse to play some Brassens as well. In fact, if you find yourself near Kent in November……..
