Hi Hugh,
North Wales … well … considering the time it took me to drive from Croydon to Welling http://www.jakethackray.com/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/sad.png I finally copnsidered my three day visit to Jakeland … wouldn’t allow me to reach you in your beautiful part of Britain. So I stayed in Welling where Terry and Juliet’s welcome was fantastic and matched the quality of the tribute to Jake and Georges !

Well Ian, I do hope I’ll manage to come to one of your JakeFests some day ( I understand there might be one in Kent in November and, after all, this county is only on the other bank of the rivulet that separates my home from Britain …).
Now, after an experience like that, I’d certainly be glad to give a hand with organizing a « Georges&JakeFest » in Normandy.
Being a member of an association called « La Mauvaise Herbe » (!!) which is situated half way between Rouen and Alençon, in the village of Montreuil L’Argillé, I feel this location might be one interesting possible site.
The more so as the meeting place there is a café-concert called « le 33 » which is run by Pierre Ravion, a singer-songwriter who happens to be an « Uncle Georges fan » as well.
This fact unsurprisingly accounts for the existence of an annual GeorgesFest at « Le 33 », where one of the regulars is Didier Agid … who has just written an excellent little book, « BRASSENS », that mentions the fruitful relationship between Georges and Jake.
I think a « G&JFest » would provide an opportunity to pay tribute not only to our two main heroes, but also to Colin Evans who introduced them to each other and brought them together to the privileged public of the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, in 1973 !
So if some of you could help me convince Pierre and Didier … « Le 33 » might be the place !
If not … well, other fine locations might well be found, either in my area, between Le Havre and Dieppe, or in the Pas de Calais where I have another friend who runs a sort of Café-Concert as well..
Just tell me if you are interested in the building of a project of this sort and I’ll gladly forward your wishes here or there.

Well Glenn, the story of your « Jakefanship » is largely similar to mine! Having lost sight of Jake’s career after admiring one of his songs on a TV programme around the end of the sixties, I was put back on the right track in May last year.
Let me say here how indebted I am for this happy outcome to Jean-Pierre Gabilan, an English grammar French specialist who happens to be one of the keenest admirers of Jake on my side of the Channel! JPG is also a fine performer of songs by Brassens and some of his continental related talents, like Ricet Barrier, Henri Tachan, Maurice Fanon, Michel Bühler for instance … and he can be seen on You Tube through the following link: jppggaabb . I am sure watching him can be warmly recommended to every member of this site ( tell me what you think when you have done so )!
Another common point between you and me Glenn, is the fact that we both live near the sea. I can see you are a near neighbour of John Conolly, whose Fiddlers’ Green and Punch and Judy Man are among my favourite songs and whom I had the pleasure to meet when he performed at the Fo’c’sle Folk Club in Southampton at the beginning of the year.
For my part I live a couple of miles from the town where Sister Josephine’s favourite drink is made … which, by the way, has led me to try my hand at writing a French version of this delightful song.

To Jane: Let me tell you how grateful I am for the tip you have given us in your post. I so far suspected that Jake ( and Georges ) could inspire brilliant performances and bring tremendous fun to both sexes and all generations. After watching Glenn’s and (thanks to you!) « Jakethackrayfan »’s videos I know it for sure !

I am glad to see I am not the only cidermaking enthusiast among Jake’s fans … and that the effect of your home brew is not as dreadful as you had feared for a while !
Envying your presnce at the Hobbit on the 5th ( I was stuck on the wrong side of the Channel – busy picking apples, of course ), I check this fine site day after day in the hope someone in your position will manage to give unfortunate chaps like me a « glimpse » of the atmosphere you lucky fellows enjoyed.! …

I fully agree with both of you and, as a fervent admirer of the « musical brothers » Georges and Jake were, am glad to know that Jake’s superb English version of Le Gorille goes on being beautifully sung to British audiences.
Having, like Glenn, missed the recent Jakefest, I too am looking forward to reading rhe date and location of the next one and, in the meantime, would appreciate getting some idea of the atmosphere at the Hobbit through a video on this excellent site ! …
