If you sign up (for free) to http://www.spotify.com, you can listen, on line, to this and many other Tom Lehrer songs (and lots of Jake as well, for that matter).

The hope remains that we shall be releasing the DVD before Christmas, but we cannot give a more precise date yet. Keep watching this space, as they say…

Can anyone who attended this lecture give a brief report? It would be great to hear about it.

            Hi Michel

We certainly expect to have the new live DVD available before Christmas but not, sadly, in time for the Thackray/Brassens event on 21 November. It will, however, certainly be worth the wait and should prove an excellent Christmas present!

As you may already be aware, an official live dvd of a show Jake played in a club in 1989 will be released very shortly: email webmaster@jakethackray.com if you would like to order a copy.

‘Jake Thackray and Songs’ is a wonderful series and we would be keen to get it out into the public domain on a proper legal footing. The costs, however, would be very great. We shall keep campaigning, however, and hope that our new live DVD will raise awareness and increase pressure (as well as provide hours of magic).

This sounds wonderful! Unfortunately I shall be at work, although I am trying to work out whether I could justify a school trip…

                  Hi Michel

There is some footage of HobbitFest on YouTube, although the resolution is not great.

                    Hi Glen

Nice rendition of Brother Gorilla. Re. guitars: you will not be the first to buy a nylon-strung guitar specifically to play Jake’s songs. I’m glad that you have liked the material on YouTube: it’s a great way to open up Jake’s songs to a wider audience.

                    Best wishes
                    Paul 🙂

I fear that you are just going to have to live with it. In my case we had a pre-nuptial agreement! Sadly, this does not extend to Jacques Brel, whom I only discovered a year ago. I have bought voluminous quantities of his material, but can only enjoy listening to ‘that sweaty Belgian’ when driving alone.

I suggest that you have a look at the thread for the next topic to this one (‘discography’) to see some options available to you to access ‘The Remembrance’.

Thanks for the tip off about the recording you have come across – a real treasure trove of material, including a live performance of Billy Kershaw.

I believe that the answer to this is very definitely ‘no’. As far as I am aware the only songs by other writers he ever performed were by Georges Brassens.

I’m glad the live album went to a good home. Like you, I have done a transfer onto CDR, but it is a crying shame that this wonderful album is the only official vinyl release not to make it to CD.

On eBay at present there are two rare Jake items:

the song book, with words, melody lines and guitar chords

the fabulous and now long deleted live LP Jake Thackray and Songs
